The tower of the Cathedral will be decorated to commemorate the feast of the Corpus (14/06/2017)

The collaboration between the City Council, through the Department of Employment, Tourism and Culture, the Cabildo Catedralicio and the Bishopric will restore an old tradition.

Thus, the tower of the Cathedral will be decked out next Thursday with velvet skirts on the occasion of the feast of the Corpus.

These banners will be placed on the four facades and at three heights with messages and images related to the festivity and logos of the Bishop's, Cathedral and City Hall.

In this way a tradition that dates back to the XV century is recovered when the Cathedral was already decorated so that the orchards could know that the Corpus was celebrated.

At that time the Corpus processional procession was celebrated on three pillars, three representative estates: the Municipality, the Cabildo with the religious orders and the guild institutions.

Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, explained that "this new action continues with our goal of recovering different lost traditions that are part of our history. We also commemorate the 550th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral."

This decoration will remain until Monday, June 26.
