Murcia pays homage to the journalist González Barnés with a place in his memory (13/06/2017)

This afternoon the Plaza Journalista González Barnés is inaugurated.

The tribute, which will attend members of the Municipal Corporation, relatives of the journalist and the Foundation Association of the Press of Murcia, will close with a performance of Los Parrandboleros.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by members of the municipal corporation, will inaugurate this afternoon the Plaza Journalista González Barnés, and will discover the commemorative plaque in his honor.

The tribute, which will be attended by relatives of the journalist and the Foundation Association of the Press of Murcia, will close with a performance of Los Parrandboleros.

The mayor said that "with this gesture, Murcia wants to recognize the professional and human trajectory of this noble journalist and public servant whose moral authority has led him to write in golden letters the recent history of this city and its most ingrained traditions."

González Barnés died last October at the age of 63, after a life dedicated to the city of Murcia, the defense of its traditions and the promotion of popular culture.

Through his work as a public official and as a journalist in the written press, he contributed to the public recognition of institutions such as the Cabildo de Cofradías or the Press Association (now the Association of Journalists).

The homage will begin at 20.30 and will take place at the confluence of the San Jose C / Joaquin Costa (main facade of the San Juan Health Center) in Murcia.
