The new Carrefour hypermarket in the Infante will employ 140 people (12/06/2017)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, attended today the presentation of Carrefour's new project for the Infante's hypermarket, which Carrefour regional director Amparo Capilla detailed, an establishment that will open its doors on June 22 and will employ 140 workers, of whom 40 are new contracts.

"Carrefour's investment in Murcia is going to involve the maintenance of 98 jobs and the creation of 40 new jobs, with an important commitment to local products acquired from small and medium-sized Murcia companies in sectors such as horticulture," said the mayor .

"Murcia is a big city: we are the seventh capital of Spain, with about 500,000 inhabitants in the municipal environment and more than one million in the metropolitan area.

But, in addition, it is a young and future city whose human resources are constantly growing: we are one of the municipalities with the lowest average age in Spain and with a birth rate that doubles to what currently exists in Europe, "he said. José Ballesta.

Regarding the latest labor market data, the mayor noted that "unemployment in Murcia fell by 10.5% this May, with 12,176 hiring more formalized compared to May 2016."

In addition, unemployment among children under 25 in Murcia has been reduced by 15.5% in the last year.

Reforms and opening on June 22

The hypermarket on Lope de Vega Street in the Infante district of Murcia has 7,837 m2 of sales room and will open to the public as Carrefour on June 22.

The center will undergo a two-week reform in which the company will adjust both the physical appearance and the commercial and service offer of the new establishment and the attached gas station.

Job maintenance and 40 new contracts

Carrefour will maintain the employment of the 98 employees who make up the hypermarket's staff and will also hire 40 people to reinforce the service in boxes, replenishment, sale in fishmongers, butchers and pastry / bakery and sections such as toys, electronics, appliances and textile.

All employees of the center will receive an average of 50 hours of specific training per person on the performance of each job and computer management tools as well as prevention, food handling, customer service or environmental saving.

Carrefour currently has 1,170 employees in the Region of Murcia, to which will be added the employees of the Infante hypermarket.

Commitment to the local economy

Carrefour has among its hallmarks, to offer its customers a wide range of products from domestic companies and products from small and medium-sized companies in each of the regions where the chain is present.

Regarding the products of the Region of Murcia, it maintains a commercial relationship with 264 companies of the community, for 221 million euros.

The company also has the fruit and vegetable purchasing center Socomo, from which it supplies Carrefour Group stores in Spain and in 16 other countries in which the company is present.

During the last financial year, Socomo distributed 58,000 tons of fruits and vegetables from Murcia.

Regarding seafood, Carrefour maintains relations with the main markets in the country and only during last year, it sold more than 12,300 kilos of fish from the coast of Murcia.

Carrefour has been present in Murcia since 1978, when it inaugurated its first center in Murcia.

El de Infante will be the fourth of the capital of Murcia and the eighth of the chain in the Region.

The company also has twelve Carrefour Express supermarkets in the province.
