Firefighters in Action will improve the hydraulic infrastructures of the Tindouf refugee camps thanks to the Aguas de Murcia Solidarity prize (06/06/2017)

Firefighters in Action received this morning the award of the VIII edition 'Aguas de Murcia solidarity' that will allow them to perform different actions in Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf

The Councilor for Development, Roque Ortiz, the Councilor for Youth and Development Cooperation, Rebeca Pérez, Councilor for Traffic and Public Safety, Lola Sánchez, and the manager of Aguas de Murcia, José Albaladejo, have delivered the check for value 12,000 euros to representatives of this NGO.

The project they are going to carry out will allow the installation of water tanks and latrine construction in the Tindouf refugee camps in southern Algeria, directly benefiting 900 people.

The councilors have thanked Aguas de Murcia for their solidarity with the call for this prize, noting that this year have increased the aid in 2,000 euros compared to the previous edition that are earmarked for development assistance projects in the field of hydraulic infrastructure

In order to achieve this objective, it is proposed to install the necessary water supply infrastructure to ensure continued and close access to their homes, in accordance with the criteria defined to enjoy the full Human Right to Water.

It also contemplates carrying out all the necessary actions to ensure the maintenance and correct management of the built infrastructure, as well as the awareness of the population for a sustainable use of drinking water.

In previous editions thanks to the award, the following projects have been implemented:

In 2009, "Improvement of the conditions of access to water of 2,900 people (1,660 women and 1,240 men) in the town of Niévrare, in the commune of BoerToress, Wilaya de Trarza, Mauritania" by Peace Cooperation Assembly.

In 2010 the winner was Engineering Without Borders, with the project "Same District Hydrosanitary Program: Strengthening the sustainability of water and sanitation services in the communities of Njora, Vumari and Ishinde, Tanzania"

In 2011 the winner was for the second time, the Peace Cooperation Assembly with the project "Improving food security for the inhabitants of Djonaba commune, MaghtaLahjar province, Brankna region, Mauritania" benefiting 2,521 people Directly and 12,562 indirectly.

In 2012, Solidaridad Internacional, with its project "Improving the quality of life of Afro-Colombian communities affected by the armed conflict in the department of Cauca, Colombia", was chosen as the winner of the fourth edition.

In 2013, the Alliance for Solidarity won the prize for the project "Access to water for the inhabitants of the hamlet Las Casitas de El Salvador".

In 2014 the project presented by FADE won the VI edition and is making it possible to bring potable water to the rural towns of Mbleoa and Ayene in Cameroon.

2015 - The VII edition was for the Foundation Humanism and Democracy that worked in the improvement of the access to drinking water in the community Los Paleos, in the municipality Les Cacaos of Haiti.

This project has guaranteed the right to drinking water to 95 families and approximately 750 people from the Los Paleos community.
