The Rector of the University of Murcia (UMU), José Orihuela, and the President of the Social Council of this institution, Juan Antonio Campillo, received today in the Convalescence members of the Regional Unit of Tropical Medicine (MTM), which celebrates in 2017 the tenth anniversary of its creation.
In these ten years, the Unit, directed by UMU Manuel Segovia Professor of Microbiology, has developed an outstanding care and research work, with special attention to Chagas disease.
The commemorative events coincide with the week of activities that the MTM carries out every year to publicize Chagas disease among the Latin American population of the Region of Murcia.
The activities will culminate this Sunday with a day of open doors in the university hospital "Virgen de la Arrixaca", where tests will be carried out to detect this disease, which in its early stages is usually asymptomatic.
Professor Segovia has indicated during the reception, in which some of the personalities who participated during these days in the events commemorating the Unit have been present, that a memorandum of understanding will be signed for the declaration of the MTM as a center Collaborator of the World Health Organization.
