European experts visit Murcia to know the project Urban DNA that is developed in Santa Eulalia (31/05/2017)

The central axis of the presence in the city of members of the Urbelac III and Urbact-Interactive cities networks is the neighborhood revitalization project, considered as an example of good practice for establishing a new innovative model of urban intervention with the implication of All citizens and collectives

European experts from the Urbelac III and Urbact-Interactive cities networks are visiting Murcia to study and learn first hand the Urban DNA project that is being developed in Santa Eulalia, which is entering its "agitation phase" tomorrow.

The project, sponsored by the City of Murcia for the revitalization of the neighborhood, has been included in both networks as an example of good practice for establishing a new innovative model of urban intervention with the involvement of all citizens and groups in the neighborhood.

Each of the networks has its own parallel work agenda, the confluence of both networks occurs at the start of the agitation phase of the project.

The members of the URBELAC III network will carry out three study visits: in the beginning of the agitation phase of the project to revitalize the neighborhood of Santa Eulalia, at the University of Murcia to know the management of infrastructures of Smart Campus and to analyze The project Murcia Rio.

INTEACTIVE CITIES have as a fundamental basis of the visit the start of the agitation phase of the revitalization project, as well as maintaining a bilateral Genoa-Murcia meeting to strengthen tourism-trade relations.

To this end, two meetings have been organized, one with representatives of the media and the other with the travel agencies to introduce them to the various tourist promotion packages.

URBELAC is an initiative promoted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission (DG Regio) of the European Union, with the aim of promoting sustainable development in cities in Europe, America Latin America and the Caribbean.

The URBELAC Network seeks to improve the quality of life of Latin American and European cities by promoting sustainable and comprehensive urban development through the identification of innovative policies and programs.

The idea of ​​this network-program goes in two senses:

For more than ten years, the URBACT program has been part of the European Territorial Cooperation Program with the aim of promoting sustainable integrated urban development in cities throughout Europe.

Throughout the period 2014-2020, the aim is to further promote integrated sustainable urban development and to contribute to the implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy.

There are currently only 11 URBACT networks funded by the European Commission.

The City of Murcia belongs to one of them, URBACT INTERACTIVE CITIES (field governance and economy).

It is an innovative project that explores how digital social networks and user generated content can contribute to improving the urban management of European cities today. The chosen subtopics are the city as an attractive tourist destination;

Business promotion and sustainable and integrated Urban Development.
