Gil Hellín consecrates the temple of the Immaculate Conception of Santiago and Zaraiche of Murcia]

After eight months of work, the neighbors of Santiago and Zaraiche of Murcia already enjoy their reformed parish, which last Friday was consecrated by the archbishop emeritus of Burgos, Bishop Francisco Gil Hellín.

The event began with the words of the parish priest of the Immaculate Conception, Ginés Acosta, telling the story lived before and during the reformation, and with the delivery of the keys of the temple to Bishop Gil Hellín, representing the Bishop of Cartagena, After the consecration "the Divine Mysteries could be celebrated in the temple and the faithful of this parish can feel here as in the anteroom of the heavenly temple where together with the angels and saints the glory of God is eternally praised."

Next, Bishop Gil Hellin sprinkled the temple as well as those present.

In his homily he recalled that this parish community of Santiago and Zaraiche "has been in some way like the Israelites, without the right place to listen to the word of God for a time, to celebrate the sacraments and to live the ministry of charity" But they already have their church restored and embellished to carry out their mission.

"It is a day for all the parishioners of great joy and also for the Diocese," said Bishop Gil Hellín.

Later, the rest of the signs for the parish consecration were made: the Archbishop anointed with the Holy Chrism the altar and the crosses of the lateral walls of the main nave;

The seminarians placed on the altar a brazier where Bishop Gil deposited the incense with which the parish priest of the Immaculate Conception incensed the temple;

The parishioners dressed the altar and decorated it with candles and flowers;

And lastly, light was given to the church with the lighting of the altar candles, as well as the side crossings.

After the realization of these symbols, the Eucharist continued.

An integral renewal

The architect Juan de Dios de la Hoz has been in charge of giving splendor to the church of the Immaculate Conception which has about 6,000 faithful.

The façade, which dates back to the 70s, is the only thing that has been preserved in this renovation of the temple, which has improved the interior of the church of new plant, formerly Baroque style.

The reform project had a parenthesis before the earthquakes of Lorca and was resumed with a much tighter budget in July 2016, beginning the works that ended last Friday with the consecration of the parish church.

The interior of the parish is distributed in a single central nave, with beam vault seen in wood, very bright thanks to the side windows and walls.

The presbytery presides over the image of the headline, the Immaculate Conception.
