The Urban DNA project will be a cultural shock to the neighborhood of Santa Eulalia (29/05/2017)

The area will have an open-air museum, a street of letters and a bookcrossing point.

A large exhibition will honor the artists who were born or worked in Santa Eulalia while different elements will remember that the synagogue of Murcia was located in Plaza Sardoy

The Urban DNA project to be developed in the neighborhood of Santa Eulalia is going to be a great cultural and tourist revulsion in the area.

The Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, presented this morning various actions to be carried out in the neighborhood in order to recover and promote different cultural aspects.

"Culture is one of the most characteristic elements of the neighborhood and that best defines it. Throughout the weeks of participation we have contacted dozens of people, shops and hotels with great cultural, artistic and creative concerns," he explained. Pacheco.

The councilman has indicated that "thanks to the process that we have followed, many of these people have decided to make a firm commitment to develop cultural activities in the neighborhood and have activated many people who, associated or not, want to participate in a comprehensive cultural program to the neighborhood".

Thus, in the double façade of the building located between Calle Santa Quiteria and Plaza de las Balsas, an open-air museum will be created with images that will decorate its windows and that will be changed periodically.

In addition, Santa Quiteria Street will become a street of letters since the pavement will be decorated with quotes from literati and will install furniture and living areas with book exchange being the first bookcrossing point of the municipality.

In Sardoy Square murals and paintings will be made on the floor, a plaque will be installed and olive trees will be planted to remind that the ancient synagogue of the city was located there.

Also a statue of Hernandez Cano will be placed in the square.

On the other hand, the old convent of San Antonio will host from Thursday 1 June the exhibition 'From a time, a place: Santa Eulalia, Barrio de los artistas' which will exhibit works of the 20 outstanding artists who lived In the neighborhood between 1873 and 1973, and among them Nicolás Villacis, Francisco Salzillo, Alejandro Seiquer, Pedro Flores, Luis Garay and Ramón Gaya.

Also plaques will be installed in the buildings where they lived or where they had their study these creators Murcia that will be elaborated by Nicholas of Maya.
