The process of rehabilitation of the Old Prison goes one step further (19/05/2017)

The Governing Board has approved this morning the resolution of the consultations and clarifications on the content of the administrative and technical bases that govern the competition of pre-projects with jury intervention for the rehabilitation and use of the building Of the former Provincial Prison of Murcia.

In this way, this process of enhancement of the Old Prison goes one step further.

In total, there were 8 architects interested in the drafting of the preliminary draft that they have submitted, within the established period of 14 days since the publication of the announcement in the BOE, these consultations that have already been answered by the municipal technicians.

Most of them are related to the possibility of obtaining plans, the professional insurance, the concrete surface of some areas, the uses to be implemented, the maintenance of the structure of the building, the visits to the building, the requirements of the technicians.

The pre-registration deadline is now open until June 5 and, once those admitted are known, the deadline of two months to submit their proposals will open.

The purpose of the competition is to select a winner for the first stage project, which has the relevant funding and provides for the allocation of social and cultural uses, as well as taking into account a space to pay homage to the Historical Memory .

The proposals will have to include solutions of integral rehabilitation, options of possible uses to be implemented in the different spaces, urban integration, accesses, permeability, treatment of adjacent gardens, as well as any other similar aspects that will result in the recovery of the space to be treated as Urban, tourist and cultural reference.

The competition will select, at most, three proposals of preliminary draft, being able to designate the jury to one of them like winner.

The maximum bidding budget will be 2.1 million euros for Phase 1 - already financed - and 4 million euros for Phase 2.
