A tribute of light to the Cathedral of Murcia on the 550th anniversary of his consecration arrives this Saturday at Plaza Belluga (18/05/2017)

The whole setting of the Cathedral will be extinguished and darkness will give way to a show of light and word that will cross the imafronte of the temple, describing each of its iconographic elements.

José Ballesta: "The show will allow us to appreciate in a unique way the beauty of the Cathedral of Santa María - whose construction lasted for four centuries - and its historical legacy with the people of Murcia.

The mayor also presented the proposals of the Murcia groups that participate this year in the Festival Murcia Three Cultures: Cantoría, DeMusica Ensemble, Coral Discantus and Schola Gregoriana de Murcia.

This Saturday, May 20, Belluga Square will host a unique artistic show that will feature the façade of the Cathedral, within the XVIII edition of the International Festival of Three Cultures Murcia and coinciding with the 550th anniversary of the consecration of the temple.

Mayor Jose Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, advanced the details of this innovative initiative and also presented the proposals of the Murcia groups that participate this year in the Festival: Cantoría, DeMusica Ensemble, Coral Discantus and Schola Gregoriana of Murcia.

The whole environment of the Cathedral will be extinguished and darkness will give way to a light show that will cross the imafronte of the temple, while a voice-over will explain each of the details and iconographic and architectural elements of the facade, describing its meaning and Origin: the shields and stained glass, the saints and Fathers of the Church, the gates of the Cabildo and the Council, the Cross of Caravaca and the rest of iconographic elements.

There will be two passes: 22:30 h.

And 23:30 h.

"It is an artistic and pedagogical activity that combines music, words and light and will allow us to appreciate in a unique way the beauty of the Cathedral of Santa María - whose construction lasted for four centuries - and its historical legacy with the Town of Murcia since it was consecrated in 1467, 550 years ago, "said the mayor, who added that" the show coincides with the Night of Museums, so the city will experience a boom of artistic and cultural manifestations. "

This proposal of artistic guide promoted by the City Council counts on the collaboration of different Murcia professionals such as the text of the license in Arte Blanca Rodríguez, the locution of the actor and theater director Julio Navarro, and the lighting and sound of APC Audio.

The first leaflets on the exterior architecture of the Cathedral

In addition, the City Council has published, coinciding with the 550th anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral, the first booklet that explains the most significant architectural elements of the historic-artistic exterior of the Cathedral of Murcia: the tower, the cover of the Cruz, the imafronte, the Chapel of Junterones, the cover of the Apostles and the Chapel of the Vélez.

The brochures will be available starting tomorrow at the Tourist Office and will also be published in English.

Murcia Three Cultures: a showcase of Murcia talent

José Ballesta and Jesús Pacheco also presented the artistic proposals of Murcian artists and artists who occupy a prominent place in the program of the International Festival of Three Cultures Murcia.

"In addition to the performance of the Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia, which hosted a massive concert last Saturday in the Plaza Cardenal Belluga, this XVIII edition has been conceived as an international showcase of the musical talent Murcia.

In fact, the program for this second half of the festival is notable for the presence of four Murcia groups: the Coral Discantus, Schola Gregoriana de Murcia (with the pianist Alfonso Sáez Docón), the Cantoría and DeMúsica Ensemble, "said the mayor.

Thus, this Saturday, May 20, highlights the family proposal of the Coral Discantus (Youth Section), which will perform 'The songs of my school' in Piazza Romea at 19.00 hours.

On Tuesday, the 23rd, there will be a Gregorian chant and organ concert, in charge of the Schola Gregoriana of Murcia and Alfonso Sáez Docón (organ), in the church of Las Anas, at 20.30.

On Wednesday 24 the young vocal group Cantoría premieres at the festival the show 'Music in the times of St. Teresa and the Princess of Ëboli'.

It will be in the courtyard of the Palacio de San Esteban at 20.00.

On Friday the 26th the female vocalist of old music, DeMusica Ensemble, will take its intimate proposal dedicated entirely to women composers also to the patio of the Palace of San Esteban, at 20.00 hours.
