The Recycling Festival arrives this Saturday at the University Square (16/05/2017)

Next Saturday, May 20, the University Square will host, from 11 to 15 hours, the R3 Market for the second consecutive year.

Following the success of last year, the Department of Development, led by Roque Ortiz, and Ferrovial Services have decided to celebrate World Recycling Day again to encourage everyone to follow the rule of 3 rd: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle .

So in this great recycling party you can enjoy a vintage fashion and design flea market, workshops for children and adults, pet area, games, exhibition and workshop of urban orchard, photocall of the civic brigade, caravan of recycling, music Live and a monologue by Chema Ruiz and Marco Antonio.

In the sustainable market will be present flagship brands of recycling and sustainability such as Pamplemousse, Jere Yekke, Little STUFF or Lofs Shoes.

The workshops for children will take place from 11 to 14 hours, where they can play and learn to reuse used objects, participate in a gymkana of recycling and dance with the song No seas marrano.

In addition will be enabled a zone of adoption of pets supported by the protectors Pintor Pedro Párraga, DarMur and El cobijo of Cañada Hermosa.

Also will be installed an exhibition and an orchard urban workshop with indigenous plants of the Region of Murcia in which will show how to decorate a home with these plants and how to grow them and give samples to all participants.

The little ones will also be able to enjoy the performance of La Pandilla de Drilo with "Drilo learns to Recycle", and the attendees will be presented with a cd with the songs of their favorite character.

In addition will be offered a tasting of Murcia Yakka beer and will be placed a photocall of Murcia Civic, where people can take photos and take home their memory.

The councilman of Fomento, Roque Ortiz, explained that "Murcia has always believed in recycling and was one of the first cities to bet on this service before it even became mandatory. Murcia have always been very aware in favor of recycling Since, year after year, the amounts collected have been increased ".

According to Ortiz, "we understand that youth is a priority group because it is the population sector of the future and we have to direct much of the awareness, and that is why we have organized this festival." Recycling and respect for the environment is An intergenerational issue ".

The Treatment Center of Cañada Hermosa has the latest technologies to enable a model recovery at European level since it allows closing the cycle from separation in homes to final recycling.

The council has stated that "there is a European Union regulations that must be met in 2020 and we are prepared from the City Council to comply with our services and facilities, but to achieve this, we need the effort and collaboration of Murcia."

From 2000 to 2016, recycling figures increased by 341%, from 4,192,934 kilos of glass, packaging and paper in 2000 to 18,495,495 kilos last year.

In the yellow container for light packaging, the contribution of waste increased from the year 2000 of 218,980 kilograms to 5,336,980 kilograms deposited in 2016. In the year 2015 was collected 4,716,560 the increase from one year to another is significant .

The increase of contenders is also important.

If in 2005 there were 741 containers, at present the Murcia have 1,389 yellow containers which has facilitated a larger deposit of this type of waste.

In the blue container, paper and cardboard, has gone from 2,075,061 kilos of the year 2000, to 5,338,412 in 2015, and to 6,307,345 kilos in 2016.

The door-to-door collection along with the information provided by the Civic Brigades in the shops and bars have allowed a considerable increase through this system.

In the green container of glass, the Murcia recycled in 2016 6,851,170 kilograms depositing them in the 1,364 containers destined for this purpose.

The increase is considerable since in 2005 3,257,000 kilograms were collected, reaching 6,851,170 kilograms last year.
