The Governing Council of the UMU will listen to the Faculty on the location of the central administrative services Monday (12/05/2017)

The Governing Council of the University of Murcia (UMU), which today holds a regular session, has agreed to hear next Monday, May 15, the Cloister of this institution before deciding on the transfer to the building of medical faculties And Nursing, in the campus of Espinardo, of the central organs and services currently located in Convalecencia and other nearby properties.

The Rector, Jose Orihuela, said that the topic was part of the agenda of the session because the government team promised at a previous meeting, adding that this does not prevent the Faculty can pronounce on it.

For the rector, the relocation proposed serves the general interest, and delaying its approval would cause, among other damages, that the competition for transfers that has not been called for several years and is now underway would suffer a further delay, with frustration Of the officials who have created their expectations in it.

The project of relocation of the central administrative organs and services has been exposed in detail by the Vice Chancellor of Economy, Sustainability and Health Sciences, Professor José María Abellán, who has indicated that what is initially planned is to undertake a first phase , With a period of execution of works that would last from September to March 2018, and that will affect only the third floor of the building of the Faculty.

Abellán added that the rehabilitation of the building, which was built in 1976, will be less burdensome than proceeding to build a new one, in addition to supposing to give utility to spaces that have been left free with the transfer of units that have come to operate in the Campus of Health Sciences of El Palmar.

He also stressed that officials will win in space, moving from the 16 square meters currently available to 22.

Projecting rehabilitation in several phases, he explained, also has the advantage of having more room to get the financing of the works.

In any case, he added, the property has flaws that would have had to be resolved, given the destination that is projected or any other.

Finally, both the rector and the rector have pointed out that what has to be decided now is whether to approve this new location, not the destination of the Convalescence, which have ensured that it will continue as an institutional building of the University and in which will continue dependencies Both of the Rectorate and of the Social Council.

The agreement reached today indicates that after hearing the opinion that can issue the Cloister next Monday, the matter will return to the Council of Government for its approval.
