Spanish Levante experts discuss new waste management models in Murcia (11/05/2017)

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today inaugurated the 1st Waste Conference 'Waste Management and Circular Economy', in which speakers from the Region of Murcia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands will debate throughout the day on territorial policies In terms of sustainability and waste management.

The objective of this conference organized by the Association of Environmental Enterprises of the Region of Murcia (AEMA) is to analyze the normative and technological constraints of the current situation of waste management, evaluate current policies and their implementation by the Competent authorities;

"From the Administrations, we must lead that transition to a circular economy, betting on waste management based on the 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle ') and strategies that prioritize sustainable production models, collaboration between sectors and an efficient economy in use Of resources, "reflected the mayor.

Moving towards a circular economy is on the agenda of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.

It is estimated by recent European Commission studies that this change of model would save € 72 million per year and increase the EU's annual turnover in the waste management and recycling sector by € 42 billion .

Murcia, reference of Sustainable City
