The Pilgrim Virgin of Fatima returns to Murcia 70 years later (08/05/2017)

"It is a wonder that the Virgin of Fatima is here, and that she can help so many Murcia who for illness or other reasons need it," said José Luis Mendoza, president of the Catholic University of Murcia, at the arrival of the Marian image to the Monastery Of Los Jerónimos.

The president of the UCAM emphasized that it is important that most of the groups of the Catholic Church can come to the Monastery of Los Jerónimos to celebrate with the Virgin of Fatima as well as families.

José Luis Mendoza also highlighted the fact that the relics of the "shepherds" who had the apparitions of the Virgin 100 years ago will also come to the University brought by the bishop of Fatima.

The ceremony of welcome to the Pilgrim MTA began with a procession around St. John Paul II Square, continued with the Regina Coeli prayer to conclude with the entrance to the Monastery Temple where José Luis Mendoza emphasized the importance of This image could be here to be visited by all Murcia who wish it.

Finally the liturgical act was concluded with a Salve to the Virgin and the prayer of the Rosary.

During the stay of the image will be developed different activities among which are the processions of May 12 and 19 in Murcia and Cartagena respectively.

As well as the stay of the Virgin 13 and May 14 in the cathedral and 20 and 21 in the Church of Santa Maria de Gracia in Cartagena.

It is worth remembering that this Marian image was in Murcia in 1948, and that therefore, it returns to this Region sixty-nine years later.

History of the Pilgrim MTA

This image was realized in the year 1947, following the instructions of Sister Lucia, one of the shepherds to whom appeared the Virgin.

Shortly after the end of World War II, a pastor from Berlin proposed that an image of Our Lady of Fatima be found in all the capitals and episcopal cities of Europe.

The idea was resumed in April 1946 by a representative of Luxembourg at the International Council of Young Women's Catholic Youth and the following year, the same day of her coronation, the first trip began.
