Podiatry could help reduce frequent injuries in professional football players (06/05/2017)

The Degree in Podiatry of the UCAM has celebrated this morning the Day of Updating in Sports Podiatry and Biomechanics in which has stood out the figure of the podiatrist in preventing injuries and their role within the protocol of recovery in athletes.

Dr. Juan José Rodríguez Juan, professor of Sports Physiotherapy at the Catholic University, said that "incorporating the figure of the podiatrist into the medical body allows detailed knowledge of parameters such as foot biomechanics, sports footwear and their interaction with surfaces of game".

Among other issues, the speakers emphasized that good counseling of this type could improve the methods of recovery and control of more frequent injuries in the athlete's foot, such as ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis and atherosclerosis tendinopathy.

In the case of a soccer player, having a footwear adapted to their biomechanical and anthropometric conditions would significantly reduce the risk of other injuries such as fracture of the fifth metatarsal, related to athlete's footfall.

Dr. Andrés López del Amo Lorente, Secretary of the Degree in Podiatry at UCAM, considers these days a success and says that "two weeks ago we covered the 150 places available. There is even a waiting list for the upcoming events."

It should be noted that the event was attended by prominent podiatrists in the sports and biomechanical field, such as Dr. Manuel Mosqueira Ourens (Universidad Católica de Valencia), Gabriel Gijón Noguerón (University of Málaga), Juan José Rodríguez Juan (UCAM), Roberto Pascual Gutiérrez Miguel Hernández) and José Antonio Berná Gascón (Miguel Hernández University).
