Miguel Angel Lopez, world champion of 20 km march, will seek to revalidate his university gold tomorrow at 19:50 hours
The Catholic University of San Antonio has bet heavily on the celebration of the Spanish University Championship in Cartagena and for that reason has gathered a luxury staff with its most outstanding athletes.
During the weekend, the Municipal Court of Athletics Cartagena will be the national epicenter of this sport.
From all the universities of Spain have arrived competitors to one of the tests that more athletes gathers in the city in which they are celebrated.
Several of the UCAM Olympic athletes have not wanted to miss this event and therefore the team of participants is at the level of a great international competition.
For the day of Saturday, one of the great attractions is the presence of Olympic champion Ruth Beitia who will take part in the high jump final from 12:00 hours.
The Cantabrian jumper, a student of the Degree in Psychology at a distance, is very excited before the competition: "For me it is always very nice to come to the UCAM in Cartagena because I am an online member of this university and I like to see the university environment "I really want to compete and with expectations to play a good role although I do not know yet how I am because it is too soon to know my fitness."
Beitia is grateful that the Catholic University has been so involved in these competitions: "The university sport in Cartagena is very present thanks to the UCAM. I have not been to Cartagena for a long time and it is a pleasure for me to compete here."
In addition, he reviewed the goals he has in 2017 with his eyes on the only major championship that is lacking in his record: "We will compete in the Diamond League again and as a strong dish the World Championship in August in London. Who was born with my coach because it would be my first world title. We are Olympic and European champions but we lack gold in the World Championship and it is the challenge we have. "
The UCAM will count with other Olympic athletes in the competition as is the case of Miguel Ángel López, world champion of 20 kilometers march, Atoine Gakeme (runner-up of the world of 800 meters), Borja Vivas (European runner- Aauri Bokesa, Benjamín Sánchez, Raquel Gómez and Diego Ruiz.
There will also be competing young promises that are already shining in international competitions such as walkers Manuel Gutierrez or Irene Vázquez.
