The councilman of Cambiemos Murcia Nacho Tornel has called on the Municipal Government to activate the protocol for maintenance, restoration and conservation of the section of Arab wall of Sagasta street to prevent it from continuing to accumulate water and waste.
According to Tornel, the structure, located in the Plaza José María Bautista, "looks more like a pool than a monument of the twelfth century", unlike the section that runs alongside the Verónicas market, which does receive the pertinent care.
Thus, the Government team "has to act and order that this structure be cleaned" to avoid its deterioration, proceeding to the extraction of the water that accumulates and the cleaning of the graffiti that affect the environment.
The protocol referred to by the municipal councilor of formation was signed by the Consistory in September 2016, in order to care for and control the remains, which need continuous maintenance when outdoors.
In addition, Tornel has proposed that the suitability of continuing with the excavation process of the remains should be studied, facilitating accessibility to the businesses and surrounding properties, in order to value this property that remained in use until 1488 and expand its dimension.
In this sense, the mayor has highlighted the contrast between the "little enhancement" that is granted to this section of the wall with the investment of one million euros for the expansion of the interpretation center of Santa Eulalia planned by the Government team for this year.
