The Department of Development, directed by Roque Ortiz, is doing different jobs in the Old Bridge to develop a project that allows for its integral rehabilitation.
Thus, municipal technicians are developing different actions that consist of data collection and analysis in situ through procedures of a certain complexity.
In this way, they are carrying out a study by means of georradar of all the elements of the bridge that will allow to generate a geometry in 3D thanks to which all the internal and external geometric parameters of the bridge of adjoining vaults will be known with exactitude.
From this analysis two actions will be developed.
On the one hand will be carried out the drillings with extraction of witnesses close to each foundation of the structure, especially in the third vault tangent to the bridge, where the elements of masonry appear with greater deterioration.
This geotechnical survey will allow us to know the soil conditions on which the vaults of the vaults are supported.
Thus, to carry out the surveys it will be necessary to restrict traffic for three consecutive days, still to be completed, next week, always in the morning, from 24 to 5 hours, in order to minimize the annoyance of Murcia.
Likewise, an accurate 3D mapping of the entire mass of the bridge and its various compositional elements, such as arches, tympanic segments, will be generated, from which important data can be extracted from its internal geometric composition, which will allow the completion of the evaluative study of its Capacity and effectiveness of its elements.
Once finished the works of the georradar will be placed sensors of measurement of the humidity and temperature inside the third vault,
All previous geotechnical recognition will allow, always in accordance with the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and with their full knowledge and supervision, to determine the scope of the actions to be performed in order to determine the final solution that, at a technical level, should materialize.
Also, these works have been preceded by a complete historical study by the Municipal Service of Archeology, which, together, should be valued by both administrations.
Councilor Roque Ortiz explained that "the municipal technicians are in permanent communication with the technicians of the General Directorate of Cultural Property to carry out these works, holding regular meetings."
The conclusions of the different tasks that are being carried out will allow to guarantee the structural stability of the bridge without this work entailing a security situation.
It is necessary to remember that in October of 2015 already were realized works like an intense cleaning of different surfaces and sanitation of some pieces.
Subsequently a carbon fiber fabric was placed to reinforce the whole affected set and extended self-leveling mortar of high strength and placed the stones of sillerías and limestone detached.
In order to anchor the affected masonry they used stainless steel bars and a metallic mesh was placed in an area of ​​approximately 25 square meters to hold the whole.
