30,000 students from 80 schools in the municipality will participate in workshops that the City Council has scheduled to prevent drug use (25/02/2017)

The Department of Health and Sports, led by Felipe Coello, has launched new workshops for the implementation of the drug prevention program in adolescents and youth, involving 30,000 adolescents from 80 schools in the municipality.

For this action, the Board of Governors has approved an amount of 168,300 euros.

In total, 240 workshops will be held during 2017 and 2018, where young people from compulsory secondary education, vocational training and high school will participate actively and where they will focus on prevention of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use.

The workshops included in the contract are: 'Drug consumption prevention workshops', 'Audiovisual workshops', and 'Parent workshops' and are held in the school center in coordination with the teachers.

According to the data collected from the drug surveys of the school population of the National Plan on Drugs, the onset of substance use occurs after the age of 13, and in the interval of 13 to 16 years practically there has been interaction with the Of substances present.

In the workshops, students and their families are actively involved in offering content such as information on substances, effects, risk behavior, social skills, group pressure and decision making.

The objectives of these workshops are to promote the development of actions within the context of prevention of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis use in educational centers in the municipality of Murcia;

To support the work of the teaching group with the incorporation of topics on prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use in the academic curriculum, and to consolidate the work already established in the framework of drug prevention workshops.

Once the work is completed, an evaluation will be made to know the impact of the activities on the target audience and the overall assessment.
