José Ballesta led the delegation of Murcia irrigators to ask Acuamed, a public company under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, to increase the output of the Valdelentisco desalination plant from the current 48hm3 to 70hm3 capacity, as there is currently a deficit In the exploitation of water for irrigation in the area and the desalination plant is not at full capacity.

"In total, there would be an additional 22 hm3 of water, a key supply for the use of the Murcia field, since the work for each cubic hectometre used in irrigation can guarantee between 300 and 500 jobs in the case of greenhouses, reaching 750 in the case of flowers, not counting the jobs generated by their marketing, "stressed the mayor.

In this sense, the mayor noted that "the productivity of water use in this area is maximum, particularly fruit and vegetable, both in terms of added value and employment, so we support these farmers in the districts of the Campo de Murcia And we support them in their contribution to the generation of employment in our municipality. "

Advancing in the constitution of a Community of Irrigators

The City Council is supporting the farmers' delegation, made up of about 350 families in the municipality, to formally become a Community of Irrigators of the Field of Murcia, with the aim of guaranteeing their right to water and contribute to the generation of employment, giving new steps In the defense of the Murcia irrigated land.

An infrastructure of general interest

To this end, the meeting also requested the creation of a Monitoring Committee for the Valdelentisco desalination plant, which would be articulated as a participatory instrument with the beneficiaries in the control and decision-making of infrastructure, declared of general interest.
