The Office of the Prosecutor of the Region of Murcia has initiated investigations following the complaint filed by Now Murcia on 30 December on the abandonment of the San Esteban deposit by the PP in the last 7 years.

The spokeswoman of the municipal group, Alicia Morales, points out that the complaint emphasizes that the Consistory "neither has implemented the effective protection measures provided in the legislation nor has shown a true desire to recover the suburb of the Arrixaca as Cultural, economic and tourist resource for our municipality ".

The letter from Murcia now addressed to the Prosecutor's Office sought to investigate possible "omission in the conservation of the site and possible breach of current legislation in matters of historical heritage by the General Directorate of Fine Arts and Cultural Property of the Autonomous Community and the Town hall of Murcia ".

Morales recalls that "we are facing possible damage to a good declared of General Interest (BIC), whose protection is reflected in Law 16/1985, dated June 25, Spanish Heritage and Law 4/2007, Of 16 March, on the Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Community of the Region "and stresses that" the destruction of a BIC is a crime included in the Penal Code. "

The Councilor denounces that "the accumulation of misconduct" of the PP Government regarding the San Esteban site since 2009 "has been endless," and points out that political errors "have been able to break through the legality barrier, which would have been incurred In a criminal offense when leaving the archaeological remains to his fate ".

"From the outskirts of the village, the obvious damage is evident, such as collapsed walls and sewage in the geotextile, which also indicate landslides," he says.

"All this would seriously damage the BIC that we want the prosecution to investigate."

The mayor explains that in the complaint filed it is detailed that on December 16, 2009 a resolution was issued by the General Directorate of Cultural Property that ordered the implementation of a project to cover "archaeological remains" with sand and a cloth Geotextile.

"However," he adds, "although the project emphasized its provisional character and set the limit for six months to start another project, already definitive, to conserve and protect the deposit, more than 7 years later the plan executed for half Year of life remains the only protection of the site. "

The complaint presented by Now Murcia, says Morales, has the dual purpose of "making it justice, given the PP's indifference, to take action in the matter and oblige the Government to take the necessary measures to protect the BIC from Site of San Esteban "and" to immediately adopt a solution to ensure the conservation of the site, to continue its archaeological excavation and to spread its importance by opening it to tourist and cultural visits, for the potential of this page live in the history of Murcia ".
