The best marksmen of the country measure their aim this weekend in Murcia, in the Championship of Spain of Olympic Shot (14/02/2017)

About 400 athletes between champions of Spain and Olympic shooters will compete from Friday 17 until Sunday 19 in the pavilion Prince of Asturias.

Murcia will host this weekend, for the first time, the Spanish Championship of Olympic Shot of Compressed Air, a competition in which will participate 384 athletes - many of them Olympic - from all over the country.

The presentation was attended by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, Secretary General of the Spanish Olympic Shot Federation, Jesús Martínez, and the Vice President of the Olympic Shooting Federation of the Region , Francisco Aguirre.

"The most outstanding athletes in the country, between champions of Spain and Olympic shooters, will measure their aim from Friday to Sunday at the Prince of Asturias Pavilion, an event that in addition to promoting Murcia as a premier sports arena, will be an important stimulus For hotel occupancy and local commerce, "explained José Ballesta.

Until two years ago, this competition was being held in the Center of High Performance of Olympic Shot that the Federation has in Granada.

However, to open and promote this sport in the whole of Spain, the Federation decided to start organizing it in other cities.

Last year was Valladolid and this year has touched Murcia.

Peaks in hotel occupancy during the weekend

In fact, the City Council, through the Department of Employment, Tourism and Celebrations, has organized for the afternoon of Saturday a free guided tour of the city for the relatives and companions of the athletes competing in the different tests, which will begin 17.00 hours from the Plaza Belluga.

Two Olympic disciplines: Pistol and Carbine

The championship includes the tests corresponding to Pistols and Compressed Air Rifles - both Olympic disciplines - in the categories of Senior, Ladies, Junior Male, Junior Female and Veterans, so they will meet athletes from 16 to adulthood.

The distance between the shooter and the target will be 10 meters, that is, the regulation for airguns.

This is a scoring and preparatory event for the European Championship in Maribor (Slovenia), which will take place next March.

Proper names of the Olympic shooting

In the presentation of this morning that hosted the Moneo building, a demonstration took place the Olympic shooter of London 2012, Murcia Javier Lopez;

The young Francisco Calzón, also Murcia of 16 years and participant in the past Championship of Young Promises of Spain;

And the young Valencian Gloria Fernandez, current champion of Spain in Pistol Júnior Femenino.

In the Prince of Asturias Pavilion, a total of 80 shooting places will be installed, surrounded by a board in which the electronic targets will be installed, to which athletes will fire their balls at a distance of ten meters.
