Social Rights proposes to expand schedules and create spaces to care for babies, within the measures to promote conciliation (13/02/2017)

Conchita Ruiz has presented to the Council of Gender Equality of the City Council the preliminary draft of the Equal Opportunities Plan between Women and Men 2017-19, which contemplates 66 actions to achieve this goal.

The document defines 6 strategies for action: gender mainstreaming in municipal policies, training and employment, reconciliation and co-responsibility, gender violence, education for equality and social participation.

The budget to promote equality has increased by 48% compared to last year.

The impetus for a female entrepreneurship program, the extension of hours of attention to citizens, the increase of public places of schooling from 0 to 3 years old and dependent persons or the creation of guided tours 'Feminine Plural' are some of the Actions proposed in the Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men for the period 2017-19 that is being developed by the City Council.

Its wording is necessary to continue promoting and developing equal opportunities between men and women, for which it is necessary to develop a specific plan that contains concrete measures to carry out in various areas.

With this approach, the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, chaired this morning the Commission - made up of technicians from different areas of the City Council - and the Municipal Council - with representation of the municipal groups - Gender Equality, whose members have Presented the preliminary draft of the Plan of Equal Opportunities between Women and Men for the period 2017-19.

It is not a matter of starting again since the City Council has a previous plan that now it is necessary to renew.

"Gender equality is one of the main lines of work of the Department of Social Rights," says Conchita Ruiz, who recalls that this year 'we have increased the budgets for equality policies by 47.75% and the Incorporation of two more houses to attend victims of gender violence, which will add to the two currently available.

66 actions and 6 strategic areas

The document, which will serve as a basis for starting the process of participation and collecting suggestions from technicians, associations and councilors of the various municipal groups, contemplates 66 actions to achieve this goal, acting on 6 strategic areas.

- Gender mainstreaming in municipal policies, which seeks to integrate the gender perspective in the projects and measures of the City Council.

With actions such as the evaluation of municipal actions from a gender perspective, social clauses in recruitment or promote inclusive language in the administration.

- Training and employment, which proposes actions such as increasing the employability of women with greater difficulties due to age, origin, ethnicity, gender violence or risk of exclusion or the development of a women's entrepreneurship program through the Organization of Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals .

- Conciliation and co-responsibility, whose objective is to promote and support the reconciliation of work, family and personal life and co-responsibility between men and women in the public and private spheres.

Among the actions included is the creation of spaces in the municipal buildings open to the public for the care of the babies (measure already incorporated in the new constructions and reforms of centers), the extension of the schedules of attention to the citizenship, the increase of Municipal public places of schooling from 0 to 3 years and dependent persons and the adaptation of the schedules of the nursery schools and conciliation centers.

- Gender-based violence, whose eradication includes measures aimed at preventing situations, improving and anticipating the detection of cases and the care of women who require comprehensive intervention as a guarantee of their recovery and protection.

In this area, the plan proposes actions in the educational and health field, with associations of women with disabilities, immigrants or older women.

- Education for equality in the fields of formal and non-formal education, for which purpose actions are taken to recognize and make visible to women who have been part of history by publishing an annual thematic catalog that will serve to incorporate women Relevant in the street or the design of guided visits on the contribution of women to the social, economic, cultural and political history of the municipality, through 'Feminine Plural' tours.

- Social participation, aimed at increasing the participation of women by promoting the associative and representative movement of women and in municipal decision-making.
