16 years of 'Green Schools' award (13/02/2017)

From today, the schools Santo Ángel and Ays de Murcia belong to the group of educational centers that demonstrate a greater environmental commitment and apply the necessary measures to turn them into establishments respectful of the environment.

The Councilor for Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, presented this morning with awards 'Green Schools', thus adding to the 25 prizewinners previously for 16 years.

All of them incorporate in their programming activities of environmental education, 'Murcia, ecology of a city', which implies a battery of information actions, sensitization and implementation of the necessary measures to make educational centers increasingly responsible and Respectful to the environment, counting with the participation, students, parents, teachers.

Schools work throughout the course on environmental issues such as waste, noise, water, energy or mobility and, in recognition of the work and environmental commitment, the City Council awards the 'Green Schools Award' to two of the Centers that have been most involved and comply with a number of environmental requirements.

This 16th edition, the Councilor for Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, has awarded the distinction to the schools of the Holy Angel of the district of the same name and Ays de Murcia, since both have achieved their environmental objectives, working with great enthusiasm and with a High level of participation.

The Ays school has participated in the program since 2001 and in Green Schools since the year 2010 and throughout this time has been actively involved with the entire school community.

The center has a Green Point at the entrance of the school, where periodically information about everything related to Green Schools is displayed.

The collection of corks is also carried out, for the solidarity campaign of AEFAT.

In addition, informative talks were organized on the responsible consumption of resources, and with Primary students have launched the 'Green Patrols' in the recesses, to raise awareness and inform of the cleanliness of the yard.

They have an Environmental Committee, with representatives of Children, Primary and Secondary, who has worked very intensely, so that the rest of the school community will be involved in the project.

The school also has a School Garden, which they use as a teaching tool for their teaching activity.

This course has linked the orchard with the subject of mathematics and the youngest learn to multiply with lettuces and beans.

For their part, the Santo Ángel school has participated in this program since the year 2011 and, in these 5 years, they have been able to instill an environmental culture thanks to the work of all the teaching staff.

They have developed the whole process of Green Schools and have managed to transmit it to students and parents in a continuous and daily.

All teachers are involved and very aware of the reduction of aluminum foil, and have practically reduced their consumption to 0. Likewise, they work energetically to try to achieve the desirable acoustic level in the classrooms and rest of the center.
