The PSOE criticizes the PP for 'deliberately abandoning the municipality's heritage' (04/02/2017)

The Contraparada, one of the most remarkable landscapes of the municipality of Murcia, located between the districts of Javalí Viejo and Javalí Nuevo, is full of garbage, canes and with several broken stones and Los Felices aqueduct that "endanger its conservation and The state in which we have inherited it from our ancestors, "according to Socialist Councilor Enrique Ayuso, who visited the area to check the conditions in which it is, after the various allegations made.

"But it is not only the Contraparada, it is also San Esteban, Monteagudo, the Mill of Batán and many other corners that are part of our heritage that have been left homeless, which is not going to be almost legacy for future generations," says Ayuso.

In particular, with respect to La Contraparada, as explained by the mayors of Javalí Viejo, José Francisco Navarro, and of Javalí Nuevo, María Jesús Barquero, who accompanied the councilman during his visit, the deterioration is not caused by heavy rains, but by Stop doing constant maintenance.

"We have been working at least ten years without seeing cleaning and conservation work here," says Navarro.

Like other enclaves of the municipality, the heavy rain of December caused that the great ashlars that conform the water of the Contraparada, of old time, were raised, at the same time that also the water has dragged many plastics and bottles that have been stuck between reeds .

"This, coupled with the demolition of part of the stone aqueduct, which is a great attraction, shows the apathy with which the PP treats the patrimony of the municipality since it governs," explains the councilman, who states that "evading responsibilities under Excuse that conservation is the responsibility of other administrations is unwise. "

This landscape, unique in the Region, "should be carefully scrupulously because it is the symbol of the irrigation system of the orchard of Murcia, which should remain for its utility but also for demonstrating the unique distribution of water between ditches to future generations ".

In this sense, the councilman points out that the Interpretation Center, whose building is finished, "has been opened to the public at half-gas, without fully endowing the contents designed and promised nor a staff that guarantees a schedule of attention to the public, Despite the hype ".

"This is just a new example of the passivity with which the Government team treats the heritage of all Murcia, it does not matter that an environment so rich in flora and fauna is deteriorating, no matter how we denounce it and It does not matter if it is lost for future generations ", explains Ayuso

Then, "yes we like to sell our landscapes and our heritage in tourist brochures, when it is a true miracle that remains, because the intervention of those responsible is minimal, sometimes null," says the mayor, who adds that "we lose the Time, taking out of the manga new projects such as Murcia River and yet we do not pay all the attention that deserves enclaves like The Counterpart.

Of the Contraparada, whose origin dates from the Arab period, the two major ditches of Murcia, Aljufía (north) and Alquibla or Barreras (south) are born, which in turn are divided into other arches, creating a complex irrigation system that reaches The whole garden.

This small dam was designed to avoid flooding, as the pedestrian mayor of Javalí Nuevo, María Jesús Barquero recalls, and is now a meeting and leisure point for many families in the municipality.
