The PSOE visits the Internment Center for Foreigners to check the conditions of immigrants and the National Police (01/02/2017)

The councilors of the Municipal Socialist Group Susana Hernández and Juan Vicente Larrosa visited the Immigrant Internment Center (CIE) this morning to check on the conditions of immigrants and the National Police officers themselves, following the recent events that provoked a riot With the escape of inmates and wounded agents.

In this sense, works are being carried out to strengthen the safety of the facilities.

"We have found a very normalized situation because there are only eight inmates and a police reinforcement, something that is exceptional, since this center has capacity for 138 immigrants, so we consider that the reinforcement should remain," explains Hernández, who also Considers it appropriate to reduce the capacity of this Center so that inmates can be better served and avoid any risk of overcrowding.

Right now, each cell has six beds, which we think is too much for the space they have. "

He also recalls that the CIE is within the competence of the Ministry of the Interior, but "the City Council should not be inhibited from the operation of this Center, because it is located in the municipality, specifically in Sangonera la Verde, so it should be interested in good March of these facilities ".

Councilors have noted that at this time the CIE should continue to improve, especially in the provision of interpreters since "we must not forget that immigrants of different nationalities arrive with whom we have to communicate", points out the councilor.

He also points out that there have been complaints with meals, even denouncing that it is insufficient to cover the needs of inmates, so it demands that this claim be taken into consideration and resolved urgently.

On the other hand, councilors have warned that agents of the National Police have to perform tasks that are not part of their duties as members of the State security forces, so that is a situation to be resolved as soon as possible.

"We agree with the request of the NGOs to extend the medical service to every day of the week, something that CIE management has already requested, as we have been informed," explained the councilors.

Finally, the councilors specify that the Internment Centers have changed their philosophy since originally they were designed to welcome undocumented immigrants, however, they have now become small prisons, so "we understand that both Europe As Spain must change the current immigration policy, which from our point of view is not being properly addressed.
