Social Rights supports the employment insertion of people with disabilities

The Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz caballero, has presented with Fundown and Fundación Vodafone Spain, through the 'EnREDa2' initiative of the project ' I prep @ ro '.

In this way, both parties will be able to dialogue and exchange views on the benefits of labor insertion, both for this group and for the business sector.

The interaction between employers and potential employees helps the business sector to overcome prejudices and false stereotypes that have historically been linked to Down syndrome.

According to Ruiz Caballero, "it is very important that this group can demonstrate its professional value within the business fabric, improve its autonomy and that we can end the digital divide that conditions them when it comes to finding a job."

In 2016, 32 FUNDOWN users have been trained in new technologies, who have acquired the necessary skills to be able to perform a job with the normality and efficiency of any employee.

These students from Murcia will join others in various provinces, reaching a total of 240 young people who will receive this training in Spain.

In total there will be 10,500 hours of training supported by seven new video tutorials that, in a simple and accessible language, will detail the steps and instructions so that the students know in depth the use of the Internet, manage the email or manage social networks like LinkedIn, Among other skills.

Following the success of previous editions, the project is facing its third edition this year at a national level with renewed momentum, since it has surpassed expectations both in the number of practices achieved and in the number of contracts reached.

Since its launch in 2014, this program has secured 150 contracts for students with Down syndrome.

As a complement to this edition, the 480 young people who participated in the two previous editions of the project will receive a refresher course of their knowledge to update the skills acquired in new technologies applied to working life.

The City of Murcia allocates an amount of 42,000 euros to the Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia (FUNDOWN) with which it develops its projects 'Inclusive Leisure for People with Intellectual Disabilities' and 'School of Life: Shared Housing Program' .

The first of them aims to promote the promotion of knowledge and skills so that 50 people with intellectual disabilities, between 16 and 55 years old, can enjoy leisure autonomously.

The activities are carried out in standardized and integrated environments, carrying out important social awareness and community education about the potential of people with intellectual disabilities by facilitating meeting points in different social resources and recreational spaces.

For its part, the project 'School of Life: Shared Housing Program' is based on the coexistence of people with intellectual disabilities and students of the University of Murcia, under conditions of equality, with the aim of launching a training model Progressive training that allows a training for the independent life of 14 people with disabilities and 7 students of the University of Murcia, in all the contexts in which they develop, that is, familiar, formative, labor and relational.
