The capital of the Region 'sells' in Fitur the attractions of the river, La Huerta and the gastronomy of Murcia (18/01/2017)

The number of tourists in Murcia has recorded a strong rebound in 2016, returning to pre-crisis figures, May being the best of the last decade.

"We started with a city model based on our roots, a solid, collective and well defined project in which the river and the orchard stand out as distinctive elements of our natural and cultural heritage," José Ballesta explained.

The mayor presents in Fitur the campaign 'Five ways to eat Murcia', with leaflets that include five gastronomic routes (the Typical, for Foodies, Family, Low Cost and Author) and texts by the critic Sergio Gallego.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta,

accompanied by the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, presented today in Madrid the tourist attractions with which the capital of the Region is promoted in the 37th edition of the International Tourism Fair, Which is expected to attend more than 230,000 people, from today until next Sunday.

"The number of tourists in Murcia has registered a strong rebound in 2016, returning to pre-crisis figures," said the mayor, who added that "to continue with this upward trend we have focused our attention on three elements of attraction: River, la Huerta and our gastronomy ".

"We look towards the river and the Huerta as distinctive and unique elements of the natural and cultural heritage of Murcia.

We start from a model of a city based on our roots, a solid and well defined project that, moreover, is collective, since it is the social and associative agents of the municipality that define the lines that mark criteria of action, through a Participatory process, "explained the mayor.

At the end of the year, the number of tourists in Murcia has exceeded 400,000 visitors, 9.61% more than in 2015, and similar to 2007, ie recovering pre-crisis rates.

The growth has affected both domestic and foreign visitors.

"In parallel, this 2016 hotel occupancy in the municipality of Murcia has reached 58%, with an increase of 23.6% compared to 2013," said the mayor.

The month of May, the best of the last decade

The mayor presented the first gastronomic brochure of the municipality's tourist promotion: 'Five ways to eat Murcia', which includes five different routes (the Typical, for Foodies, Familiar, Low Cost and Author).

The campaign will be disseminated nationally, through hotels, tour operators and social networks.

It is a tour of the most authentic corners and flavors of the municipality, which includes more than 70 establishments located and referenced on a map, the different gastronomic areas, as well as a glossary with our gastronomic vocabulary more characteristic of Murcia: from the seamen and The zarangollo, passing by the cats and the sun and shade.

'Murcia from your river'

Murcia, world capital of world nazarene
