The XXIV edition of the Flamenco Summit will offer performances by Cynthia Cano, the Morente brothers, 'José Antonio' ​​and José Mercé (16/01/2017)

The Flamenco Summit of Murcia, the region's reference event, arrives this year to its XXIV edition inaugurating a new stage, partially integrating itself as one of the great festivals promoted by the City of Murcia.

The Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, presented this new edition with Marta López-Briones, director general of the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts;

Carmen Rubio, director of the Company of Carmen and Matilde Rubio;

Teresa Souan, director of the Conservatory of Dance of Murcia;

And the head of the festival, Antonio Parra.

The festival offers in this edition a varied poster but that focuses especially on the world of flamenco dance and dance, in particular in the murcian dance, which has already given a great dance school and excellent dancers, dancers and formations.

As a token of this, the festival will open on February 9 with the new show of the great dancer from Murcia, Cynthia Cano, who has gathered for the occasion a great group of excellent cantaores, guitarists and invited dancers.

Cano will receive that day the Artist of Revelation Award 2016 for his new contributions, such as the show premiered at Romea as a tribute to García Lorca, 'Poet in New York'.

Along with the bailaora, the night will be completed with the Choreographic Workshop of the Conservatory of Dance of Murcia, which presents an excellent flamenco program with students of 5th and 6th of professional teaching of the specialty of Spanish dance, sample of our great quarry.

This approach to dance does not forget the great international figures, and so, the Summit will close on the 18th with a well deserved tribute to the great José Antonio Ruiz, 'José Antonio', one of the most prestigious Spanish dancers and choreographers of all The times, twice director of the National Ballet and the Andalusian Dance Company, among others.

The tribute, in which Ruiz will receive the 'Patriarca Flamenco' prize, awarded by the Flamenco Association of the University of Murcia (AFUM), has been largely promoted by the Dance Company of Carmen and Matilde Rubio Has recently returned from a new triumphant tour of the great theaters of China, a country where it is a reference training, as in other countries and regions of Spain.

The company will present the ballet 'Póker Flamenco', with choreography by José Antonio Ruiz himself, who will return to dance for the occasion.

To the tribute has been united a select group of first figures of the dance, cantaores and guitarists.

The poster is completed with the cante of the current top representative of flamenco, an indisputable figure for many years, Jerez José Mercé, who at the Summit will present a genuinely jondo recital, 'Intimate and flamenco'.

It will be the 11th in the Teatro Romea.

That night Mercé will also receive the 'Patriarca Flamenco' award in the cante section.

And completing the offer, on the 16th, at the Teatro Circo Murcia, Soleá and Kiki Morente will offer a renewed flamenco, young, acting both individually and jointly in a program that is premiered at the Summit and which have called 'Two Hearts at a Time '.

Two different styles but also drink from the creative genius of his father, the late teacher Enrique Morente.

In addition, activities parallel to the festival have been organized, such as the flamenco fashion show by the prestigious brand "5Flores", directed by Rosa Ruiz, on February 17, in which professional models, dancers and dancers will parade, with the special intervention of Cynthia Cano and Miguel Ángel Serrano.

Also an intensive course of flamenco and Spanish dance will be offered by Mónica Fernández and Gala Vivancos, on 11 and 12 February.
