University of Murcia: doctoral thesis alcohol consumption (12/01/2017)

The age group of 46-65 years, the most vulnerable for alcohol consumption, according to a UMU doctoral thesis

The highest data on alcohol consumption occur in the age group between 46 and 65 years, with 17.6 percent in men and 7.8 percent in women.

These are some of the data contained in the doctoral thesis held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia (UMU) by Berta Almudena Medina Infante, with which it has obtained the qualification of outstanding cum laude.

The findings of this research also point out that all age groups consume alcoholic beverages on weekends at similar levels, and double what they consume during the week.

The most significant differences are recorded on weekdays, where consumption is higher between 46 and 65 years.

It is also noteworthy that people with a level of risk consumption are not aware that it can negatively impact their health.

To carry out the doctoral thesis, the author selected an initial sample of almost 2,300 patients from different primary care centers in the Region of Murcia, of whom, 260 were submitted to a questionnaire in a second interview.

In the work was counted on the collaboration of the health professionals of the same ones.

The doctoral thesis has been directed by UMU professors Alberto Torres and Miriam Moņino.
