The Municipal Center of Patiño hosts the presentation of the winning work of the first call for aid to research Manuel Cárceles Caballero (11/01/2017)

The Municipal Center of Patiño will host tomorrow Thursday, at 20 hours, the presentation of the winning work of the Research Grants Manuel Cárceles Caballero on the intangible heritage of Huerta, organized by the center itself and that in this first edition has relapsed into The research project presented by Juan Francisco Murcia Galián.

After the presentation will be offered a tasting of the traditional balls of Patiño elaborated by the Center of the Woman and a performance of the aguilandos and trovos of the Crew of Patiño.

The winning work titled 'The construction of traditional musical identity in the Franco regime: cataloging and study of the musical background of the Choirs and Dances of Murcia of the General Archives of Alcalá de Henares', focuses on the study of traditional music during the Franco regime , A period of Spanish history in which the collection, study and practice of the so-called folk music or oral tradition reached a boom time, since the recreation and revival of these music was an important tool in the national construction process .

The objective of the project is to analyze the traditional music of the municipality of Murcia during the Franco regime from the documentary fund preserved in the General Archives of the Administration of Alcalá de Henares.

The cataloging of this documentary fund will allow the author of the research to carry out a study addressed from a double perspective.

On the one hand, from the official folklore of the Regime, rescued and diffused by its own institutions: the Choirs and Dances of the Women's Section and the Choirs and Dances of the Union Work of Education and Rest.

And on the other, from folklore not influenced by current political institutions, and compiled by researchers of the Spanish Institute of Musicology.

In this way it will be possible to establish a comparison between the different repertoires of traditional musics of Murcia, contrasting the technical differences of compilation and methodologies of field work, as well as the music collected and how this election formed the establishment of a musical identity with Which we feel bound to.

During the Franco period the work of collecting popular music followed two directions.

On the one hand, this task was carried out by advisors of the Women's Section and school teachers, in order to adapt and bring to the scene of the Choirs and Dance Contests the traditional Spanish songs and dances.

In many cases these works lacked an adequate scientific methodology.

These groups led the process of 're-folklorización' that ended up forming a canon of musical repertoire that identified each Spanish region and that has lasted practically until the present time.

On the other hand, the collection of regional songs was also carried out by the Spanish Institute of Musicology.

From this institution, renowned researchers began an intense work of compiling and transcribing songs and tunes from Spanish regions, following a scientific and ethnomusicological methodology.

Fruit of this work the musical transcriptions that represent the oral musical environment of the Murcia of the late forties are conserved;

The recordings made by the American investigator Alan Lomax in several towns of the municipality of Murcia and the recordings directed by Manuel García Matos.
