Social Rights collaborates with ASSIDO, ASPAPROS and FUNDOWN to develop programs to help people with disabilities (23/12/2016)

The Government Board, through the Department of Social Rights, has approved the granting of three grants to ASSIDO, ASPAPROS and FUNDOWN for the development of their projects to help people with disabilities for a total amount of 58,000 euros.

Specifically, the Association of Parents and Protectors of Psychic Disabled (ASPAPROS) receives a grant of 8,000 euros to continue the development of its program of integration of 60 people with psychic disabilities, through the development of different types of actions throughout The year, such as cultural outings, sports activities, leisure and free time, etc.

Since its foundation more than 50 years ago, ASPAPROS aims to promote the integration and socialization of people with intellectual disabilities in their social relationships.

It currently has an Occupational Center where students aged between 18 and 56 are cared for, affected to a greater or lesser extent by this type of disability.

For its part, the association for People with Down Syndrome (ASSIDO) will receive a grant of 8,000 euros for its project 'Walking towards Independence.

The Autonomy of the Person with Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disability ', aimed at more than 131 beneficiaries with Down Syndrome and / or Intellectual Disability, aged between 5 and 18 years old, enrolled in regular primary and secondary schools.

Among the objectives set out in the project is the proposal to harmoniously develop the personality of the children;

Perfecting social behavior, communication with others and habits of autonomy and favoring creativity, imagination, own initiative and expression.

The work developed by ASSIDO is aimed at improving the quality of life of people with Down Syndrome and enhance the full development of their individual capacities, favoring family, school, social and work integration so as to facilitate a life as long as possible. As possible.

At present it has three centers and two sheltered homes to serve the more than 320 users of the association.

Shared housing

Finally, the Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia (FUNDOWN) will have an amount of 42,000 euros, with which it will develop its projects 'Inclusive Leisure for People with Intellectual Disability' and 'School of Life: Shared Housing Program' .

The first of these aims to promote the promotion of knowledge and skills so that 50 people with intellectual disabilities, aged between 16 and 55, can enjoy leisure autonomously.

The activities are carried out in standardized and integrated environments, carrying out important social awareness and community education about the potential of people with intellectual disabilities by facilitating meeting points in different social resources and recreational spaces.

For its part, the project 'School of Life: Shared Housing Program' is based on the coexistence of people with intellectual disabilities and students of the University of Murcia, under conditions of equality, with the aim of launching a training model Progressive training that allows a training for the independent life of 14 people with disabilities and 7 students of the University of Murcia, in all the contexts in which they develop, that is, familiar, formative, labor and relational.
