Murcia adheres to the Manifesto in favor of the State Strategic Plan of the Bicycle (22/12/2016)

The Municipal Plenary this morning unanimously approved the City Council's adherence to the Manifesto in favor of the State Strategic Plan of the Bicycle that seeks to continue contributing to the development of this clean means of transport and the improvement of the coexistence in the public road between the pedestrian, The driver and the cyclist

This manifesto includes 10 essential measures to support the promotion and development of cycling in Spain:

The bicycle improves the health of the people: it fights the pollution (acoustic and atmospheric) and improves the physical condition of who uses it.

The bicycle needs a homogenization of urban and interurban regulations regarding its use.

The bicycle fights climate change: it is an option of transport without emissions, indicated especially in urban nuclei.

The bicycle favors the economic growth: it is motor of employment, with notable local incidence.

Bicycle and intermodality promote the transformation of cities: they help improve the urban environment and promote sustainable development.

The bicycle has an important tourist potential, which is beginning to emerge all over Europe and to which Spain must join.

Cycling is an optimal mode of transportation to work and school, improving social relationships and productivity.

The bicycle needs infrastructures consistent with urban reality, the rebalancing of public spaces and social demand.

The bicycle needs the diffusion of its advantages and the commitment of the mass media.

The bicycle needs a State Strategic Plan.

In this way, and through the manifesto, offers support to the work of the Technical Committee that is preparing the State Strategic Plan for the Bicycle, constituted by the Higher Traffic Council;

General direction of traffic;

Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy;

Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment;

Ministry of Development;

Spanish Table of the Bicycle;

Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces;

And Network of Cities for the Bicycle.
