The City Council prioritizes investments in hydraulic infrastructures in districts to avoid the effects of heavy rains (21/12/2016)

The Action Plan contemplates a total of 12 interventions in Algezares, Zarandona, Churra, El Puntal, El Raal, Santa Cruz, Sangonera la Verde, Costera Norte, Miguel Induráin, Avenida Juan Carlos I and Murcia center.

The works, with a budget of 1.4 million euros, include the improvement and interconnection of collectors, optimization of pumping and urban drainage systems, as well as the installation of 1,000 meters of new pipes.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, presided today the Board of Directors of the municipal company Aguas de Murcia (Emuasa), in which it was agreed to advance the construction of new hydraulic infrastructures in neighborhoods and districts, to avoid damages to new episodes of intense Rains, within the Emuasa Investment Plan.

The objective is to streamline the improvement of the network and optimize its maintenance during rainy periods, giving priority to the works of the new pipeline systems and the extension of the sanitation network, with an investment of 1.4 million euros.

Specifically, the Plan of Action contemplates a total of 12 interventions in Algezares, Zarandona, Churra, El Puntal, El Raal, Santa Cruz, Sangonera la Verde, Costera Norte, Miguel Induráin, Avenida Juan Carlos I and Murcia center.

Actions that are already planned will be carried out and other improvement works will be included, prioritizing those aimed at improving the drainage systems in those areas of the municipality that are more problematic.

Works include improvement and interconnection of collectors, installation of grids, improvement of the pumping system in rainfall episodes, adaptation of the interceptor drainage, replacement of scuppers, execution of spillways and improvement of urban drainage.

Likewise, the Investment Plan contemplates the installation of about 1,000 meters of new pipes, expanding the sanitation network with new sections, as well as the renovation of some of the existing ones.

With regard to the storm interceptor of the North, the City Council will urge the Ministry of Agriculture - the organization responsible for the execution of the work - to approve the drafting of the project as soon as possible for the immediate implementation of this essential infrastructure, To curb the avenues of water that have been registered this past weekend.
