Immigrant associations in Murcia bring their voice to the Plenary Hall (19/12/2016)

The Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, and Councilwoman Margarita Guerrero received this morning in the Plenary Hall a representation of immigrant associations resident in the municipality of Murcia, on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day of Migrants 2016, which Took place yesterday Sunday.

The event was attended by members of the Federation of African Associations of Murcia (FAAM), specifically representatives of ten of its associations: Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Gambia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, World of Cultures, Center for Studies Of the African Union and Association of Women with Africa.

Also present was the representative of the Association of Ukrainian Larisa.

"Murcia, as reflected in the image of the matron who presides over the facade of the Almudí Palace, is a host city, is a land that, throughout its history, has known to welcome and integrate those who have seen Forced to leave their place of origin in search of a better life, "said Conchita Ruiz.

FAAM representative, Mady Cise Ba, thanked the reception to the City Council and stressed that it is also "a day to claim social rights and equality, and to show that we feel Murcia and we work to make This city an even bigger place ".

Today, more than 3 percent of the world's population is grouped under the name of migrant population, a figure which, in absolute terms, means that more than 200 million people have been forced to leave their place of origin.

In Murcia there are about 50,000 people of foreign origin residing in the municipality, which represents 11% of the total population.

The City Council, through the Council of Social Rights, works for the integration and elimination of barriers, through support for schooling, the association movement and training for immigrants.

The main work is carried out through the concerted services carried out by specialized entities in the care of immigrants, such as CEPAIM, Murcia Acoge or Columbares, which provide reception, Spanish classes, food, legal advice or psychosocial care, among other services .
