Tourism left last year in the municipality of Murcia more than 65 million euros and generated 17,000 jobs.
The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, attended this morning the XII Meeting of Associated Companies to the Congress Office, which was held in Los Molinos del Río and attended by dozens of Entrepreneurs of the Murcia tourism sector.
"Murcia is consolidating itself as a tourist destination for Congresses and Meetings, with a total of 679 events organized last year, which attracted more than 160,000 participants with an average stay of three days in the city," said the mayor.
In particular, the objective of the Association of Collaborating Members of the Congress Office of Murcia is to promote the 'destination Murcia' both for the product of 'meetings and businesses' and for the 'tourist' product.
In total, last year hotels in Murcia welcomed more than 356,000 travelers, who made more than 578,000 overnight stays, according to data collected after the analysis of the impact of tourism on the economy and employment of the municipality of Murcia in 2015.
The study highlights the importance of the sector for the economic development of Murcia and shows the consolidation of its recovery, after the fall in activity indicators between 2008 and 2012.
Tourism in Murcia generates 65 million euros and 17,000 jobs
The direct production of tourism for the municipality of Murcia in 2015 was over 65 million euros (49.38% generated by leisure and cultural tourists and the rest by visitors by congresses, conventions and conferences), generating a Value Added Gross of 36,184,366 euros.
According to estimates, in 2015 tourism generated 17,428 jobs, of which 11,126 were direct jobs, 2,107 indirect jobs and 4,195 jobs.
