IU-verdes Murcia claims on the international day of secularism its defense from the municipal (09/12/2016)

Left-wing formation remembers on the International Day of Laicism and Freedom of Conscience the pending work for real and effective church-state separation.

The Coordinator of United Left - Greens in the municipality of Murcia, Sergio Ramos Ruiz, said this morning that "The City of Murcia and the Autonomous Community have a serious problem in not being able to differentiate between religious denominations, which are private organizations, and The public institution that should not participate in religious matters, foreign to public life. "

Ramos has stressed that even today many buildings of public use and ownership are plagued with religious symbols and what is more worrying, still today many public authorities swear their office next to a copy of the bible.

It also denounces the relationship between the Popular Party and the UCAM, which in Ramos's opinion seriously attacks religious freedom, "Mendoza and the UCAM use the religious pretext to carry out advantageous business in which they also impose their beliefs on the rest of the society".

The left-wing formation denounces how the Popular Party in the Region of Murcia privileges a congregation, as if it were the official religion: in symbolic, political, tributary, economic matter and in the question of social services and of the Teaching, violating principles Constitutional principles.

IU-Verdes Murcia approved in its Assembly a resolution to continue working to achieve secularism in the municipality, and supports the work carried out by the European Lay Association which defends in its manifesto for 2016: "We wish to share a dream, a universal utopia, a Political and legal project, where the laity of institutions, universal civil rights, social justice, equality and freedom of conscience flood all the peoples of the Earth, with total respect for all kinds of convictions, within the framework of Democratic principles, justice, equality and non-discrimination, proclaimed by the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" of 1948 and the "European Charter for Secularity and Freedom of Conscience" that Europe Laic proclaimed in May 2014 .
