The Department of Development, led by Roque Ortiz, through Ferrovial Services, will reinforce this month the regular road cleaning and waste collection service in order to attend the parties, markets and other events that are held these days in Murcia.

The device, which will be extended until after Reyes, will be reinforced with a special team of 8 operators and 4 vehicles (sweepers, self-propelled vacuum cleaner, electric bicycle and sweeper) will join the regular service in the areas with more influx of Murcia and visitors.

In addition, special actions will be available on the most designated days such as Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Years.

In the neighborhood of Carmen, and due to the increase in commercial activity in this area, a cleaning reinforcement has been planned in the afternoon, between 14 and 21 hours, which gives continuity to the cleaning work usually carried out in Morning schedule

The service is comprised by an operator with an auxiliary vehicle that will be responsible for reviewing this area at this time.

In the historical center of the city, where most of its commercial activity is concentrated and because it is an area of special influx of people, a second additional equipment to the existing one, made up of an operator equipped with an auxiliary vehicle, will add Efforts to review the main areas.

These reinforcement tasks will be carried out between 8 and 15:30 hours.

From next Monday, December 12, the collection of waste of the center will be expanded with a collector and two operators, motivated by the increase in commercial and hotel activity these days, increasing the capacity to deposit waste at the usual points.

To cope with the increase in paper and cardboard these days, the collection of these wastes will be strengthened in shops in the area.

The current collection schedule is extended by establishing this service from 9 am to 10 pm.

From day 16 cleaning tasks are extended from 14 to 21.30 hours with a motorbike sweeper, a self-propelled vacuum cleaner and an electric bicycle sweeper, which are added to the daily services that are performed daily.

On the other hand, on the occasion of the celebrations of Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and based on the experience of previous years, a reinforcement of the service is scheduled from 14 to 21 hours in Plaza de Santa Isabel, Plaza de las Flores, Gran Vía , Alfonso X and Bartolomé Perez Casas, with the purpose of being able to adequately attend to the high number of residues and dirt that is generated in such a short space of time.

The device for these locations will consist of 21 operators with 17 mechanical means (road sweepers, vacuum cleaners, motor-sweepers and mini-collectors) and 18 containers of additional 240 liters.

On New Year's Eve a special device consisting of 1 mini-picker, 2 pole sweepers, 2 tubs with manguerotes and 14 workers will start at 6 o'clock New Year's morning to clean the streets.

In addition, at midnight a reinforcement of cleaning will be carried out in areas that are usually grapes such as the Church of Carmen, Romea and Santo Domingo

Finally after the traditional Cavalcade of the Three Kings, there will be a team composed of 14 operators plus 4 road sweepers and two auxiliary vehicles that after the passage of the parade will leave the city clean immediately.

Councilor Roque Ortiz explained that "the goal is to improve the image and urban hygiene of our city by placing the capital of the Region in one of the cities cleanest and most cared for."

End of intensive cleaning program in districts and districts

On the other hand, the Council of Fomento and Ferrovial Services finalized last November 30 the work of intensive cleaning in neighborhoods and districts as a supplementary treatment to the ordinary service of sweeping and flushing.

During these two months, more than 88,000 hectares of the municipality have been operated with two cleaning equipment (one for neighborhoods and another for pedanias), composed of 12 and 11 workers respectively.

The two innovations of this campaign have been the use of a special product to avoid the voids of dogs in facades, columns and corners, as well as the tests of application of vinegar to treat the weeds present on sidewalks, roads and curbs, replacing the Glyphosate, commonly used as a herbicide, to kill weeds.

The intensive cleaning supplementary to the usual regular cleaning service began last September 26 in 18 neighborhoods of the city of Murcia finished on November 18.

Last October 1 also began this work in the 54 districts of the municipality.

These complementary cleanings ended on Tuesday 30 November in Llano de Brujas.

In the districts of Murcia worked from Monday to Saturday, with brigades composed of 12 workers supported for their task with 9 vehicles: two hydro-cleaners, a scrubber, a bucket-laden truck and three auxiliary vehicles.

In the districts 11 workers have been specifically assigned to this special plan, expanding the daily work teams, which maintain their usual endowment.

These tasks were carried out from Monday to Sunday, with 2 vehicles hidrolimpiadores, a lorry trucks bucket with sleeve and three auxiliary vehicles

As in the previous actions, the works were agreed with the presidents of the municipal boards of districts and pedanias in order to act in the most needy areas, as well as in areas that the neighbors made their suggestions.

As was done in previous campaigns, a new specific and detailed study of the needs of each area was carried out before its beginning.

The civic brigades that have developed their work in many of the neighborhoods where they have acted have provided timely information collected from these months of work on places and points where these tasks should be reinforced.

Various reinforcement work has been carried out on sidewalks and pavements:

• Removal of chewing gum, which is eliminated by manually scraping the sidewalks and pavements where they are.

An operator in an intensive cleaning has removed between 2,000 and 2,500 gum in a day.

These are usually found in greater numbers near schools and institutes, leisure centers, youth stores, candy shops, hamburgers, areas of large influx of pedestrians and tourist areas in which an average of between 5 and 25 chewing gum per square meter.

• Cleaning graffiti and posters on walls, as well as repair and deep cleaning of bins.

• Hydro-cleaning in detail, to clean corners and unique areas such as bases of litter bins, street lamps, traffic lights, mupis and other vertical elements in the street, usually littered with liquid remains.

• Mixed Mixing with tub for deep cleaning of pavements, present in sidewalks and pedestrian zones by applying high pressure water together with products suitable for this purpose.

• Cleaning container locations, in addition to cleaning inside and out, move from their locations to sweep and hydro-clean the area.

• Application of a product to eliminate the unsightly spots that the voids of the dogs cause in the corners, facades and public furniture.

This product contains a substance that repels dogs so that they do not re-urinate in these areas and that repels the urine so the dog, when it is splashed, does not want to microwaves there.

This product has an initial unpleasant odor that disappears in a few minutes.

The dogs can perceive it for several hours, thus maintaining the effectiveness of the treatment.

It has an instant and lasting action, is non-toxic by inhalation and does not stain.

From October 1 to November 18, this product has been applied in more than 780 points in 18 neighborhoods.

It has also been applied on façades and corners that presented these unsightly spots of the districts of El Palmar, Aljucer, Zarandona, Espinardo, Bacon Bridge and Sangonera la Seca.

• Application of acetic acid (vinegar) to treat weeds present on curbs, sidewalks and corks, replacing glyphosate, herbicide commonly used for this task.

Acetic acid containing vinegar is a natural, non-toxic product that is used as an organic herbicide in organic farming.

During the month of October a first trial with 20 ° vinegar was carried out, during which a larger trial was carried out, using vinegar of three graduations, 10 °, 15 ° and 20 °.

In addition to the vinegar, a wetting agent of 3 ml per liter of vinegar was added in all cases, in order to improve the adhesion on the vegetal surface, increasing the time of contact and, therefore, of action on the plant .

Different zones of the municipality were selected, in zones of the city as well as of the districts, looking for different sorts and vegetal species, in order to obtain the results on a sufficiently representative range of the flora that is considered like weed, and on which Usually performs actions of clearing and herbicide treatment.

The results of these tests led to the following conclusions:

1. The vinegar has herbicidal action on the treated weeds.

2. The degree of herbicidal action is increased with the acetic acid concentration thereof.

3. The addition of a wetting agent to the vinegar significantly improves the herbicidal action of the vinegar.

4. The herbicidal action is observable in the first 24 hours after treatment.

5. All treated plant genera have been sensitive to the effect of vinegar with 20 ° acetic acid content, having a minor effect on 15 ° and 10 ° vinegars.

During the course of these cleaning days has been informed punctually to the neighbors of districts and districts of the accomplishment of these tasks.

Graphically in the social networks Facebook and Twitter ascribed to the website murciaciudadsostenible have been sent messages to warn of the possible annoyances that these tasks could cause in the daily life of the neighbors.
