The UCAM welcomes the new students of UCAMPACITAS (02/12/2016)

Many have already found work, 18 of them, in the UCAM

The Catholic University of Murcia has celebrated the welcome ceremony to the 14 new students who begin this course their training in the program UCAMPACITAS.

These are young people with intellectual disabilities who, after completing this program, which is in compliance with its fifth edition, will receive the title of Technician in Companies and Social Work Activities, after two years of training, the last of which focused on business practices.

These 14 students join the 14 who are already in second grade, counting on a total of 64 students who have passed through the University counting on the 3 previous editions.

Cecilia Mateo, professor of the Degree in Primary Education at the University, explained that "other universities at the national level, such as Miguel Hernández de Elche and the Shared Space of A Coruña, have come to look at this project, as these people with Disability, once they finish their studies in adaptation to ESO, they do not have any more formative help, and we give them a new opportunity. "

Mª del Mar Pintado, director of the program, mentioned that "we are very excited because we already see how there are students who have finished our programs and have found work. This year we will have new activities that students will carry out over the two years , Although we will keep the first year more formative and the second year with practices in the different services of the University and in external companies.

One of the new students to join the UCAMPACITAS program this year is Jennifer Sáez, who explained that "I really like to come to UCAM because it is a unique experience, where we share opinions with other colleagues, and I have great expectations of finding a job in The future.These days we have begun to give many subjects such as mathematics, language or English, which helps me to continue with my dream of having a job as a caregiver for children in a kindergarten.

It should be noted that all the students who have completed this program, unique in the Region and third in Spain, have obtained a job.

The UCAM has hired 18 of the youngsters, both for the Campus of Los Jerónimos, Cartagena and San Vicente de Paul College, where they perform services in different areas such as cafeteria, counseling or bookstore, among others.

The rest of the students who have finished their studies are already part of the company's templates, such as Premium Ingredients, Eroski, Citizen's Office of Murcia, El Corte Inglés, Santa María del Carmen College or McDonald's.
