Murcia honors Jose Echegaray on the centenary of his death (28/11/2016)

Councilors of the Municipal Corporation have attended this afternoon to the discovery of a bust to Jose Echegaray, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904, promoted by the Royal Academy Alfonso X the Wise

Located on Echegaray Street, on the side of the Teatro Romea, this sculpture, created by Manuel Nicolás Almansa, seeks to pay homage to the Spanish engineer, playwright, politician and mathematician on the centenary of his death.

In this way, a motion approved in the municipal plenary is unanimously approved by all municipal political groups.

Although he was not born in Murcia, he was considered to be Murcian since he resided in the municipality from the age of 3 to 14, where his theatrical interest arose.

In addition to being a deputy in the Constituent Cortes, General Director of Public Works, Minister of Public Works and Minister of Finance, Echegaray was also a playwright of great success among the public at the time, considered the greatest exponent of the theater of the Restoration.
