Recycling Data

Since Murcia began to collect the packaging completely, in 2000, the recycling of glass, packaging and paper has grown by 295%.

If you compare 2015 with the previous year the selective collection has grown by 3%.

Thus, in 2015 were recycled 6,513,180 kilos of glass, 4,716,560 containers and 5,338,412 kilos of paper

Within the yellow packaging container the proportions of waste are Plastics (pet, pead, film ...) 48.78%, Metals (cans ...) 20.52% and Carton drinks and food (break) 10.68%.

The difference up to 100 is improper (residues that are not of this container and there is confusion, the most frequent ones are: Cellulosas, textile, material with organic matter, glass and other plastics noncontainers)

Murcia had 3,669 selective containers in 2015 which is 52% more than in 2005 when there were 2,407.

This means that there are 393 inhabitants per container of containers and 384 per container of paper, which improves the Spanish average located at 443 inhabitants per container of containers and 453 per paper container.

From January to September of this year the data are as follows: 5,127,390 kilos of glass, 3,845,560 of containers and 4,569,670 of paper.

According to estimates, this year will be closed with the collection of 6,836,520 kilos of glass, 5,127,413 kilos of containers and 6,092,893 kilograms of paper.

This increase in the kilograms collected separately is a consequence of a greater citizen awareness resulting from the campaigns carried out in recent years and by a greater economic activity.

In the paper container, the most spectacular increase has been seen in the commercial carton that is collected with a special door-to-door service and this year is expected to rise above 17% over last year.

This is due to the visits of the Civic Brigades to all shops and establishments, informing about the need for collaboration and the special door-to-door service and the adaptation of this special collection service to business hours.

As for glass, it has also been increased by the door-to-door service in the hotel trade, where a small container was supplied free of charge and the glass is collected at the door in the stipulated time with the bars and restaurants

Finally, the increase in kilos of packaging is due to the installation of new collection points of selective, reorganized and increasing the frequency of collection.
