The University of Murcia becomes today the capital of silver (23/11/2016)

One more year the University of Murcia celebrates the feast of San Eloy, patron of silversmiths and jewelers.

From November 23 to December 1 will be held various activities organized on the occasion of this anniversary, culminating with the most striking act of the holidays: the parade in procession which, like every year, will end with the opening ceremony, the presentation ceremony Honor appointments and offerings of students, jewelers and university.

A practice that has its roots in history, now converted into a university tradition, commanded by UMU professor Jesús Rivas Carmona, and organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Training and Innovation.

The acts serve for the memory, the homage and the diffusion of which was an important profession in the Region of Murcia: the goldsmithing.

Preceding the big day, on December 1, will be held the already classic Course of Goldwork, which includes numerous conferences on silver and jewelry, and will present the book Studies of Silver, which this year reaches its sixteenth edition, a publication Of reference in the matter in the international scope.

Tradition, festivity, study and academic acts, are conjugated in this commemoration, causing the University of Murcia to become the capital of silverware during these days of autumn.

The activities will begin today Wednesday November 23 at 4:00 pm, with the presentation of the course by its director, Jesus Rivas Carmona, who will offer the conference "The challenges and possibilities of research in goldsmithing", which will follow the 17 and 19 hours two lectures by José Miguel Noguera and Jaime Vizcaíno, which will address the Roman and Byzantine goldsmithing respectively.

It will be in the Hemicycle of the Faculty of Letters.
