Improves the quality of the enterprise in the Region of Murcia (21/11/2016)

The Rector of the University of Murcia (UMU) today celebrated the presentation of the data of the GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) report of 2015 on entrepreneurial initiatives in the Region of Murcia.

The study in the Region was carried out by a team of UMU researchers led by teachers Antonio Aragón and Alicia Rubio.

In the analysis of the main data, the directors have emphasized that, although the entrepreneurial activity in the Region of Murcia in 2015 is somewhat lower than in 2014, a significant improvement in the quality of the entrepreneurship has been observed in the past year.

To the extent that entrepreneurship by necessity in 2015 falls to 20.60% and entrepreneurship by chance reaches 79.40%, this being the highest percentage observed since 2010.

The TEA (rate of entrepreneurship between 0 and 3.5 years) in 2015 is in the Region at 5.81%, which is above the national average and slightly below that of 2014 (6.67% ), Although the report interprets this as a positive stabilization of the rate after several years of significant fluctuations.

This decrease in the rate is explained by the reduction in the number of new entrepreneurs, 1.40%, a significant decrease compared to 4.32% in 2014. But the fact that 75% of the TEA corresponds to new entrepreneurs Between six months and three years) reflects a high percentage of companies that have passed the nascent phase and are on the road to consolidation.

This year's decline in the percentage of potential entrepreneurs (5.48%) places Murcia for the first time below the Spanish average (6.1%) and is up to 50% lower than the figures for the Region of 2014, Which may be indicating a certain cooling of the population towards the implementation of entrepreneurial initiatives in the future.

Good indicator is, however, the rate of destruction of enterprises in the Region, which is less than 1% (0.9%), when in 2014 it was 1.6%.

The 2015 GEM report reflects the most optimistic levels of the last five years in terms of the evolution of individual factors that influence entrepreneurship, particularly because of the considerable increase in perceived opportunities to undertake in the last year.

In this sense, the study highlights favorably the reduction of fear of failure as an obstacle to undertake in the Region of Murcia, which is approaching in this section to the Spanish average.

As main obstacles appear the lack of training and financial weakness, a problem that Professor Aragón has described as structural.

The territorial director of Levante BMM-Cajamurcia, Olga García, has highlighted the results of the GEM report, which has been defined as a very effective tool to know the entrepreneurial reality, the decrease in the region of entrepreneurship by necessity and the increase of Is done by chance.

It has also reiterated BMN's commitment as a driver of training and the application of new technologies.

The vice-rector for Coordination and Internationalization of the UMU, Bernardo Cascales, who led the event, referred to the excellence of the research group of the University that has developed this study, which will serve, he said, to help in decision making In terms of entrepreneurship.

The Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment, Juan Hernández, has highlighted, on the other hand, the improvement in access to financing by the entrepreneurs and the infrastructure with which the Region has so that they can develop their activity.

The presentation ceremony was closed by the UMU Social Council president, Javier Ruano, who pointed out that during his stage at the head of the representative body of the society at the University of Murcia has championed the actions in the field of entrepreneurship And the transfer of knowledge.

The GEM study is sponsored by the Cajamurcia Foundation, the Institute of Promotion of the Region, the Social Council of the UMU and the Center of Municipal Initiatives of the City of Murcia.
