The scientific and technological activity of the Catholic University of Murcia moves from Friday to Sunday, from the classrooms and laboratories of the educational institution to bring together, through 11 booths and more than thirty practical activities, science And research to society, on the occasion of the celebration of the XV Science Week.

The Murcia Malecón Garden is once again hosting this initiative, organized by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Enterprise and Innovation of the CARM and the Seneca Foundation, providing a wide range of activities to the public of all ages. The area of ​​health and well-being;

Computing and telecommunications;

languages;

And communication, among other branches.

This year, as a novelty, UCAM has prepared, through the Degree in Telecommunications and the Chair of eSports, activities related to virtual reality and electronic sports, so that children and adults can live the experience of this 'multimedia immersion' Through a demo with different adventures.

The inauguration of the event, held this morning, was attended by the president of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, who stressed that through this initiative "arouses the concern and scientific vocation of the smallest, at the same time Which are taught to value the importance of science and research in our life, area and environment. "

The Minister of Education and Universities, María Isabel Sánchez, said in her speech the great progress that this initiative presents year after year, noting that "this Week of Science provides universities, technology centers and researchers, as well as companies in the Region , The possibility of transferring to society its knowledge in this field ".

The rector of the Catholic University, Josefina García, stressed that "research is one of the main assets of UCAM," recalling that the initiatives addressed by the university in this area "are already being recognized by public bodies."

He also noted that since the institution has been increasing each year the number of activities in this event, with the aim of arousing the interest of society for science, research and study.

Likewise, the Vice-rector of research at the UCAM, Estrella Núñez, stressed that "this initiative is the showcase through which young people are shown the importance of science as the basis for sustainable social and economic development," recalling That "from the Catholic University of Murcia science is working from many areas, which will ultimately result in the benefit of society."

Doctors for a day

In the area of ​​health, there are various activities planned by the Catholic University for this scientific weekend.

Through the Medical Degree, visitors have the opportunity to act as health professionals, with the help of the Body Interact clinical reasoning table, diagnosing a patient and posing, as experts in the subject, possible treatment strategies, among other issues .

Drones, robots and 3D printing

In another of the stands of the institution, attendees can learn first-hand the possibilities offered by drones in the field of conservation, restoration and reconstruction of cultural, architectural and social heritage, for which there is a dron equipped with Camera, which can be piloted by the attendants in a flight simulator.

Science Week does not lack 3D printing, hand in hand with the degree in Computer Engineering of the Catholic, stand where both the process of creating a handcrafted 3D printer, as well as its configuration and use.

Another of the highlights of this week is the manufacture of robots, through Lego pieces, and the contest scanning day, where participants who solve a puzzle previously will be given their bust in 3D.

Radio and live sport

The university radio of the UCAM iRadio will produce from the Science Week some of its programs, with special participation of the attending public that will be able to take part in the same as to know how a program is realized.
