The University of Murcia celebrates 100 years of General Linguistics (10/11/2016)

This year marks the centenary of the publication of the General Linguistics Course, by Ferdinand de Saussure, the foundational text of modern linguistics.

With this reason, several specialists will review at the University of Murcia its role in the renewal of language sciences and the repercussion of the concepts developed by the author in current linguistic research.

The activities will take place in the Hemicycle of the Faculty of Letters, and include various lectures by professors from the Universities of Murcia, Valencia and Alcalá de Henares that will take place between November 11 and December 2.

Likewise, on December 19, a workshop-debate will be held around Saussure and Chomsky in which the linguistic theories of these authors will be confronted, maximum representatives of two different paradigms of 20th century linguistic research.

The debate will be moderated by the professor of UMU Ramón Almela, and in it will participate students of the Degree in Spanish Language and Literature of the Faculty of Letters.

The activity is coordinated by the teachers Mª Isabel López Martínez, Eulalia Hernández Sánchez and Carmen Sánchez Manzanares, and organized by the Vice-Rectorate of Communication and Culture, DeLetreArtes and Faculty of Letters.
