The president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza, and the Minister of Health, Encarna Guillén, signed the first hour of this afternoon the agreement by which students of the Degree in Medicine of the UCAM will be able to do their clinical practices in the hospitals of the Murciano Health Service.
The event, which has taken place in the Ministry of Health, has also attended the UCAM rector, Josefina García Lozano;
The director of Quality, Manuel Carlos Ruiz and the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jerónimo Lajara, as well as responsible for the Murcian Health Service.
Through the aforementioned agreement, which has a duration of four courses, the hospitals Santa Lucía and Rosell de Cartagena and Rafael Méndez de Lorca are linked to the UCAM for the accomplishment of the aforementioned practices.
Likewise, it is expressly stated that in addition the students of the Catholic University can also do internships in the hospitals of Murcia capital, Morales Meseguer, Virgen de La Arrixaca and Reina Sofía, by signing specific agreements.
Nevertheless, the UCAM maintains open the way of the contentious-administrative appeal, in order that the two non-university hospitals of Murcia, Morales Meseguer and Reina Sofía, can be used on equal terms by the students of the UMU and the UCAM, as provided by law.
On this agreement, the president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza, affirms that "I am happy with the signing of this agreement because it supposes the solution to the problem of the practices of our students of Medicine", although he has indicated that "we have communicated to the Minister of Health, that we will continue with the judicial process with the objective that the High Court of Justice dictate that the hospitals Reina Sofía and Morales Meseguer can share the practices in equal conditions with the students of the UMU.
José Luis Mendoza added that "we reach out to the rector of the University of Murcia and we ask him, with common sense, to understand that we must promote good understanding between both universities."
For its part Josefina García Lozano, rector of the UCAM, has assured that "the valuation is positive;
We have opened the door to a normal development of the formation of the practices of our students and it is also done in conditions that allow us to fulfill the commitments that the Catholic University acquired at the time with students, their families and society in general.
