The documentary "The memory of the hands", produced by the UMU, won the Cossio Prize for restoring the history of teachers (08/11/2016)

"Today is the hands of memory," said Pedro Salinas, a professor at the University of Murcia in the 1920s. The poem, which refers to the memory of how much has passed through hands throughout life, gives a title to the feature film " The memory of the hands: Echoes of the pedagogical legacy of C. Freinet in Murcia ", directed by Alfonso Burgos Risco and produced by the University of Murcia, which has won prizes at festivals such as the International Independent Documentary Awards of Hollywood, Foreign feature film at the Hollywood International Moving Pictures Film Festival or the Best Foreign Language Documentary Feature at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.

The last prize obtained by this successful film dates from only one day: yesterday, November 7, he was awarded the Manuel Bartolomé Cossío 2016 Prize for his contribution to the recovery and enhancement of the memory of teachers and heritage Historical education, in general, generating awareness and heritage mentality. "The jury highlighted that this feature highlights the possibility of recovering, preserving and disseminating a set of teaching experiences linked to Freinet's didactic approach," while trying to show That they are transferable to the school today. "They also emphasize their" interdisciplinary and innovative "character and their contribution to the valorization, diffusion and transfer of culture and patrimonial memory of an important part of education.

The film is a hybrid documentary (brings together animation and real image) produced by the University of Murcia through TV.UM of the Area of ​​Information Technologies and Applied Communications (ATICA), in collaboration with the Center for Memory Studies (CEME) and the Teachers' Union of the Region of Murcia (STERM).

The documentary is presented as a tribute to the work of a series of teachers who worked in the Region of Murcia, collecting the teachings of Célestin Freinet, a French teacher who introduced printing in the 1920s in school and advocated teaching Reading, writing and using the dictionary, bringing the idea of ​​experimental teaching.

Its director, Alfonso Burgos, is surprised by the exceptional reception the film has received at numerous festivals throughout this year, and talks about the project and its origin: "part of the research project 'On the memory of Teachers' Which was being done on the conservation of teaching experiences of the Center for Studies of Educational Memory of the University of Murcia.

It is a research film that is, above all, a documentary, since "it is based on reality, on the experiences that were made by ten teachers in the region, but we wanted to apply the features of cinema of fiction and animation Which I had collected in my doctoral thesis to try to make a different documentary.

"We gave him a different image treatment than the more classic documentary, with more construction, more image processing, more co-production."

Burgos states that "The film talks about experimentation as a fundamental method of learning and the sensitive pedagogy of bringing the child to those things that he likes to get involved in the learning process."
