Jose Ignacio Gras pose a battery of measures to address the problems of El Carmen (03/11/2016)

The problems of dirt, prostitution, drug dealing and squatters remain the main complaints from neighbors

The spokesman of the Socialist Municipal Group, José Ignacio Gras, within the Mayor's program, visited on Thursday the Barrio del Carmen accompanied by the headman Ignacio Garcia, Councilwoman Maite Espinosa and other members of the Municipal Board, to address the main problems and concerns of the citizens who live there.

Gras said he understands municipal politics "as the maximum proximity and closeness to citizens and thus accordingly, this meeting aims to not only detect problems in the neighborhood, but also look for possible solutions".

In this regard, the Socialist spokesman in the city of Murcia has stressed that "from the Municipal Board and the Municipal Group will develop a set of serious proposals to propose in future full and that respond to the demands of the neighbors ".

After this visit and after talking with merchants and residents of Barrio de Carmen, Gras has indicated that this emblematic area of Murcia converge two opposing realities.

On the one hand "the citizens of Barrio del Carmen have a great cultural and participatory concern and, secondly, there are serious problems entrenched in a while and do not allow peaceful coexistence for the neighborhood," he pointed the socialist mayor.

"For me it has been a pleasure to see that the residents of Barrio del Carmen have great concerns participation in social and cultural events, an example of them are the numerous requests, more than 1,600, for training courses, use of the library and spaces requests by associations, "added José Ignacio Gras.

"However, in this regard we see the cultural center is too small and missing spaces for these purposes when there is a ready supply of such spaces as are two full halls of artillery barracks, closed and untapped".

Moreover, as the headman told him the Socialist spokesman neighborhood, El Carmen problems are the same for years.

One of them, which has been calling for the PSOE in Murcia since time immemorial, is the lack of cleanliness and hygiene of the various public spaces.

"Trouble spots are given, odors, uncollected garbage and lack of maintenance of public roads that denote the absolute negligence of the government team mayor Ballesta for this neighborhood, which has 26,000 inhabitants" clarified Jose Ignacio Gras.

"To this must be added the problems of an area that has become a real ghetto where prostitution, vandalism and drug sales is palpable. Also it adds that this area is between two schools, the José Loustau and the Herma, the output of which children have to see situations retail and prostitution "continued Gras, who has concluded that it is urgent and necessary to undertake social intervention actions in the neighborhood.
