Laboratory experiments and group games to make a more sustainable city Murcia (02/11/2016)

García Alix Municipal Center hosts the first Citizen of Spain Laboratory, where 400 murcianos contribute their opinion and experience to improve waste collection service in Murcia.

The center, which starts today and will be operational until November 8, has four distinct areas: Compactor and broken glass, group games, Create the hub of the future and Space Chef.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Councillor for Public Works, Roque Ortiz, visited today the 'Laboratorio Ciudadano Waste Collection in Murcia' Ferrovial Services Spain, a center for experimentation and pioneering innovation in Spain where 400 neighbors the municipality are participating in the different experiences and tests start today and will run until next Tuesday, November 8th.

"In this space, located at Centro Cultural García Alix, participants neighbors can act and contribute their opinion in the management of their waste at home, which allows you to hear your opinions and observe their reactions to improve service design collection waste and increase recycling levels, "said the mayor.

The Laboratory has different spaces and delimited areas: Area Visual Experience, Waste Identification cubes smart trash, kitchen design and home environments, compactor and broken-glass Space Chef 'Kitchen and recycles' Interviews zone Citizens mural graffiti free expression, group games area, recycling data and contribution to society, to redeem the chips area provided in the tests, and receive and welcome.

These spaces are organized into four areas: Zone 1: Compactor and broken glass, Zone 2: Group games, Zone 3: Create the bucket of the future, and Zone 4: Space Chef.

Each has the presence of a coordinator and four area managers that meet the 400 volunteers who go through this center over a week.

Chef in Space, for example, it is carried out simulating waste sorting in a real scenario as a kitchen, with cubes of various types and stamping and graphic information on how to recycle in Murcia.

Another example of the activities carried out is the game 'Create the cube of the future', in which volunteers will learn about the different models with advanced and futuristic features.

In the Citizen Lab they are conducted interviews, experiments and what is known as 'Lean Startup', a technique that allows to test the launch of a product or service through learning validated consumers themselves.

Individual tests and group games can generate sensations in volunteers participating through various exercises, validating the assumptions behind each experiment.

"The goal is to have the direct participation of the users of this public service to implement procedures that allow us to increase the levels of recycling through greater social involvement, making Murcia a more sustainable city," said the mayor, who he added that "this initiative we want to position our city as a benchmark in urban innovation."

A representative sample of society Murcia

To carry out the program, we selected a representative sample of Murcia society with neighboring neighborhoods and districts, universities and colleges, neighborhood councils, youth centers, Seniors and Women, families and other organizations.

The investigation, the results will be analyzed and applied to identify areas for improvement in waste collection services, and become a benefit for the residents of Murcia.
