The UMU develops paints hundred times more resistant to abrasion (19/10/2016)

A team of researchers from the University of Murcia (UMU), led by Professor Pedro Antonio Garcia Ruiz, designed paints with high resistance to liquids and abrasion by friction, in the latter case up to one hundred times stronger than exist currently on the market.

The development of these paintings, high adhesion primer and finished, arises from the need raised by the Granada company Illurco to get deposits whose fluid resistance and abrasion was far superior to that offered by other existing products.

"The primers facilitate grip on the surface to which they adhere and prevent its peeling, while paintings finished in direct contact with the product in the fuel tank, which must also meet certain safety conditions, including other aspects, "says professor García Ruiz.

These new interiors finished greatly improve the quality of the deposits currently marketed by the company in its different applications: as water containers (both water reserve as from sewage), (juice containers) food, etc.

The paintings developed also allow use containers in applications than previous coatings did not resist, such as containers of vegetable water and oils (liquid seeped below the painting and raised) or deposits of products from mining (abrasion of paint sludge made disappear in a short time).

The new coatings are the result of research work carried out in the laboratories of the group of "Carbohydrate Chemistry, Polymers and Industrial Additives" UMU.
